    I think on the receipt they give you at the post office it says something along the lines of "address checked OK" and then yes or no.

    Presumably they should warn you if the address check fails when they accept the item for recorded.

    AFAIK all they check is that the housename/number matches one of those available for the postcode given.

    Perhaps custardy could confirm what the "check" is.

    Recorded delivery is just standard mail so addresses are not checked at the Post office. The only addresses they check are special delivery and standard parcels and if you have one of those with an invalid address they do tell you.

    The queues at the PO are bad enough as it is without the poor clerk having to check 25 packages being sent standard mail or so a time for me when I go in!

    The sender can claim for the item cost if it had any value, just ask the Post office for a claim form and send it in once 15 working days has elapsed since letter/package was sent.
