Ways to pay into my ISA

I have a current account and an ISA with Barclays. My wife only has an ISA with them.
I've just found out that the only way for my wife to get money into hers is by handing over a cheque at a branch...is this specific to barclays?
Last year her ISA was with Halifax, and I was able to directly transfer money from both my Barclays current account and my Alliance and Leicester current account. Barclays tell me that with them, this is not possible.
What a pain the a*se. The nearest branch is miles away.

I've got the current account and ISA with Barclays too - they told me that it has to come from a Barclays account (or, apparently, by cheque). Perhaps this is because their ISA is a market-leading product at the moment, so they're using this leverage to acquire new current account customers..?
Silly question, but could your wife set up a standing order to your account, and you set up a new Direct Debit into her ISA?Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -

By god, you're a harsh, cynical woman! (but probably spot on)Badger_Lady wrote: »Silly question, but could your wife set up a standing order to your account, and you set up a new Direct Debit into her ISA?
That was my initial thought. My barclays account is a household / bill account in MY namee, but we already both have a standing order set up to put money in each month, so she could have just upped the amount.
But Barclays say it has to come from a Barclays account in HER name.
I'm suddenly wondering if I can change it to a joint account, and if they would then let her transfer money in from it...0 -

See the Ts & Cs here - "2.2 The minimum deposit is £1. Deposits may be made by transfer from another account, standing order, cheque, or by paying a cash amount into any Barclays branch in the UK."0 -
^^ Aaah! Well, they wouldn't let me pay cash at the branch! I had to pay the cash into my current account, then make a deposit from my current account :rotfl:

I'll give them call and ask about the T&C's....and about whether the joint account is permissable.
Thanks for the replies everyone.

Changing it into a joint account will be fine, we can then transfer money across no problem.

..
I forgot to ask about the cash terms and conditions, said goodbye and hung up (*slaps head)....someone else do it - I couldn't bear to hear that hold music again0
