o2 refusing to give me a PAC code??
This has really annoyed me. Been on the same contract for years after my husband got me a phone on his account. However a better deal came up with o2 where more minutes/texts were on offer for the same money and by this point it makes more sense for me to pay for myown phone so i opened a new contract in my name.
I rang o2 to ask about transferring my number to the new conract and while originally they said it would be fine (but my husband had to ring to end the contract), now they say they can't becuase of something to do with their billing system not recognising the PAC code??? I could have done it if i was on PAYG apparently but not on contract? I can't understand this! Can anyone confirm if this is correct? Apparently it has nothing to do with the change of name either.

I know I couldn't transfer my old o2 contract number onto a new contract with o2, if that's what you mean?
Not sure if you could try transferring it onto a payg phone, then onto a different contract one? x0 -
get a free sim for another network , thread on the freebies section with free ones, PAC to that and then back
bit of an ordeal but worksEx forum ambassador

A PAC is a port authority code which allows the transfer of your number to another network. Ask for you PAC, give it to another network on PAYG, and then do the same again to get the deal that you want with O2. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

REALLY silly question, but do you need to go through this pollava at all if you're staying with the same network? Doesn't it count as an "upgrade"?

I've just changed my contract with Orange and they simply sent me a new SIM in the post, with my same phone number on it...Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
Yeah using a PAC means taking it to a new network, PAC stands for Porting Authorisation Code. Porting means moving it - if you are staying with the same network you aren't moving the number anywhere.
Don't know if it would now work to port to a different network on PAYG then port back to o2 - I didn't think o2 let you port once the contract was set up - thought it had to be done at point of sale?!Wondering how to have a life & not rack up more debts...0 -
That's just an upgrade so you wouldn't need a PAC.Badger_Lady wrote: »REALLY silly question, but do you need to go through this pollava at all if you're staying with the same network? Doesn't it count as an "upgrade"?

It only matters in the OP's case as she is trying to transfer from her husband's account. If she had her own account she could upgrade on that without a PAC x0 -
I wish i had kept it in his name now. I was sure it would be fine having read the bumf on the site about setting up new contracts. Really annoyed that i have to change my number but i guess if others have experienced the same it must be standard. Sigh.0

Oh they said about getting a PAYG sim, but they said it was unlikely to go through in the 14 day time limit. Arghhhh!0
