Oh come on - the OP'S GF made a conscious decision to borrow money she knew she would not be able to pay back. She has a moral duty to take responsibility for that.

    !

So you know her then do you?

You know what she spent her money on do you?

You know for a fact she went out and SPENT ALL the money on reckless spending do you?

How does anyone of Us know the true reasons behind her debt?

Should we judge everyone based on what we think?

No wonder the world is in such a state if thats the attitude!

Does it matter that she went on holiday, did she pay for it? From what ive read, not once has it been said she paid for it!

So she went on holiday, whats the difference in her going away, with someone going away with a mortgage of £100k, who has paid for their holiday! They have more debt than she did!!

I could be really unkind and suggest you both had a good spend up while on holS courtesey of your friends creditors. I admire her style.

Glad you think so CTT.....we had a GREAT time thanks...especially as I get holidays free with my job. Glad you admire her style-she'll be thrilled.
  • I had 100k wiped off in a year it was great. I went out and bought a new car and went on an expensive holiday after. Definately recommended.

I must say, as a relatively 'newbie' myself, I am shocked at the aggression with which some people express their opinion.

I am trying my hardest to not go down the bankrupt route, but I appreciate that it is an option - a legal option - and its nice to hear from people that have been through it.

At the end of the day, all us in debt have a choice - we can either do what OP's G/F did, or we battle on...its a personal choice. At the end of the day, no one's going to hand out a gold medal to me when I finally pay my debts off in around 19 years time, so I can well understand this girls actions!!

Also, it doesn't matter what she spent it on - I started running my debts up at the age of 21. I bought my first house and didn't know any better and we just got in deeper and deeper and borrowed more and more to throw at our ever growing debt. Yes, we're all adults, but banks need to accept some responsibility too.

    QUOTE]

    Dd I mention reckless spending?

I said nothing of the sort - I said she made a decision to borrow money she knew she couldn't pay back. I made no comment on what she may have spent it on - it may have been to buy food for poor starving children, or for treatment for her dying grandmother. No matter. My statement remains the case. She borrowed money that any intelligent person, and I am gracing her with intelligence as she is going to be a teacher, would have known they could not pay off.

Newfunk, you seem to have got yourself in a rightfunk. Please calm down and at least read posts properly before attacking people.

  • Sarcasm is not lost on OP I can see. Lots of posts from him justifying the holiday but not a single post about where the debt went. There is an attempt, I can see, to bring into picture a small naive village girl whom all the animals in the bank shewed and spat out. What exactly did she spend it on ? Prolly spent the whole lot of perfumes and wine I think. OP, take a look at some of the threads. You will find lots of people livign virtually in poverty, having kids to feed, disabled, trying every possible methods to repay. They can all go the easy route you advised your GF. I take a bow at them. If any of them had come and said they had gone through bankruptc I would understand. Kids should not suffer for some mistakes their parents did. What does your GF have to show ? She has coem from her village to this country and thought she got her hands on mega bucks. I bet you stayed in some 5 star hotel and had champagne to celebrate your freedom, all funded by the loans your GF took out irresponsibly.
