Skype is SO good!

I am a new convert to Skype - it's going to cut the cost of my calls abroad by a huge percentage. The headphones cost me £24.99 and as Skype is free to download that was all I had to do - apart from buying some 'talk time' to phone landlines... using SkypeOut.

Anyone else found that this is an amazing saving on their phone bills?

I've got some friends abroad who are also on the internet and I'm hoping to convert them to using it so that we aren't spending a bean to talk!

Best saving I've made for ages!!

  • Skype is good but not as cheap as 18866 or 18899 when calling landlines home or abroad. Other friends abroad on the internet can also use MSN or ICQ for chats.

Also check out VoipBuster for calls from PC to landline. They're part of the some company as call18866 and 1899.

VoipBuster are still offering free calls to landlines in about 20 countries. I've been using it for calls to Spain for a while - haven't got any complaints about it. I got a free 0845 number with it too, so I could receive calls on it too. When calling out, that 0845 number is given as the CLI when the other person has Caller Display.

I agree- Skype is great for calling from computer to computer but VOIPBuster and VOIPCheap are much cheaper for calling landlines.

VOIPBuster is free for around 20 countries as the above poster said and there is no connection fee. All you do is pay £1 to register (if you don't you are limited to 1 minute per call) - (UPDATE - I think it is now 5 Euros)

If you use Skype for pc to pc calls and VOIPBuster for PC to landline then you are sorted.

Also there is no need to fork out loads for a headset. I bought a set from Aria for under £10- http://www.aria.co.uk/ProductInfoComm.asp?ID=16883 and on the main page- http://www.aria.co.uk/ProductsList.asp?Category=37&SubCat=&Name=&Page=2&SortBy=

    Hope this helps.

How do you get the 0845 number?

Hmm.....it seems to have disappeared. Maybe they stopped offering it. I definitely got one though. I didn't get as part of standard sign-up, I had to request it once logged into their web-site. I tested it, and the number is still working.

I can only assume they've stopped offering this to new BETA testers.
