travel insurance without medical cover

This thread has been pulled up from 2008 (probably from someone doing a search).
There is probably no point trying to answer to OPs questions.0 -
I've also done a search and come up with this thread. A recent hospital admission has lead to cover being declined.
They are saying:
We won't provide you travel insurance against someone stealing your suitcase, because you've recently had a heart attack.
How crazy is that?
Why can't you get cover against the generic things like delayas and lost luggage, and accidents - that surely are the same risk for everyone - and just decline the pre existing medical part? I don't want to pay a premium for something that I don't see as an enhanced risk anyway, - just because the insurance company finds it an increased risk bully for them, I don't, and am quite happy to just have all the other cover.
But to *decline* cover - meaning I have to admit to other insurance companies that I have previously been refused cover - introduces a whole set of unwanted knock on effects.
Not happy.0 -

Just out of interest, which insurer are you referring to? Most insures give you the option to take out a policy, as standard, and exclude you medical cover for pre existing conditions. I've never heard of an insurer that won't offer you any sort of policy if your medical conditions are excluded.0 -
Hi Mayfair. The company that has refused terms is 'Holiday Safe', a trading name of Infinity Insurance.
By following various links in the MSE main articles, and a few phone calls, I've now arranged cover, including for the medical parts that were denied by the above company, and strangely for not that much more than I had paid before!
It certainly pays to look around.
My only beef is that you can't tick a box at the end of your quote to decline the medical cover and get a new quote based on that. You 'have' to declare the pre existing medical conditions even if you are definitely going to proceed without covering for them.0 -
Travel Insurance will always cover health costs as well as your possessions so it's if you're arranged to pay for an Annual journey principle understanding that part of that principle you currently have covered in another place. Your dwelling contents protection might also provide some grade of cover for possessions that you take overseas.0

Ahhh I see! It is a pain in the bum, but one of those things I'm afraid!0
