Redundancy advice re: Housing and benefits

Hi Guys

Need advice for a friend of mine,

he's single and 24, renting a £495 pcm 1 bed flat in coventry and needs to know if he'll qualify for housing benefit and if so how much?

know this is a hard one to figure out, big thanks to anyone who can help

he's concerned that he wont be able to meet his rent payments.

thanks on his behalf

  • If he puts his dtails into www.entitledto.com it may help him.

he did that, but due to him being under 25 it classes him as only being elligible for a room in a shared house £50 pw. as he has some months left on his tenancy of the £495 place, this wont cover it, anyone got any experience of this?

Not being funny but how on earth can you expect a decent reply from the info you have put in your post:confused:

You make no mention of income, if he is working, if he has dependant children etc etc

Its like asking how long is a piece of string.

Sorry guys! Thought it would be obvious from the redundancy that he was unemployed and on jobseekers allowance. Mentioned his age, didn't mention any dependants as he has none!

I was made redundant at 24 too, similar situation and renting myself, although rent lower. Basically had to meet the rest of rent out my JSA. He can also apply for a hardship loan/crisis loan I think, if he is not able to meet living costs. Has he had assessment from Rent officer? Dont know if that would help? Hope he gets back to work soon, its the best way to meet the cost.

Has he thought of another job? 24, young and able and should be keen:rolleyes:

Mcdonalds and tesco are always recruiting.

Surely much better than claiming JSA??

thanks Laura, this is ultimately what we thought would happen, just wondered if anyone else had similar experiences where maybe things went more postively.

sorry he'll have to make up the difference from his JSA or apply for a discretionary payment for the rest, he's unlikely to get this unless he's disabled or has kids.
