I have tried to find the answer to my question, but have had no luck so can anyone please advise.:o
I'm starting social work in Sept, I've applied onlnie for student finance, submitted my forms and am waiting to be assessed.
I am aware I can apply for a social work bursery, and a friend has sent me a link to apply ( at the end of April I think) the form also has a section for childcare fees.
Ok so question.....
I thought you're childcare entitlement was included when you apply online, therefore do I need to fill in this part of the form, and also do I carry on and apply for hte bursery through the link I have or wait for my assessment from the LEA, is that part of their assesment..
I foolishy thought I would apply online and the lea would tell me all I was entitled to and it was all done as part of their assessment ( if you get my drift) I didn't realise I would have to apply online then apply for my bursery and then apply for childcare???

I'm so confused can anyone please help.

You should phone your LEA for help, there is usually an advisor available. As regards to childcare I had phone LEA for form separate from the online application, which is also quite tedious to fill in as you have to put the costs you expect to incur each week per semester for childcare and get the childcare provider to fill in a section as well, only apply for what you need as any overpayments will have to be paid back, you fill in extra forms throughout the year detailing how much you actually spent on care. That is the way the childcare grant works for my LEA I don't know if bursary applications differ, so you will need to check.0

I too am starting S/W in sep where are you going??
I have my PN1 staring at me right now with my childcare application and was just going to check online if the bursary stuff is up yet!
Yer you have to apply separately for everything sigh.. and the childcare is a NIGHTMARE my fees are going to be £300 a week which are paid in arrears with our first lot of student loan but my childcare starts 1st sep oh well all good fun. I am applying via paper for the PN1 as my case is really complicated and I have been advised thats the best thing to do.Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!0 -

I'll be at Hallam in Sheffield, I'm dead nervous bout starting as no one from my access course is going t here so it's all gonna be new for me.
I guess on hte financial side of it I'm worried that I'll get there and realise there's something i've forgot to apply for.
My childcare shouldn't be too hard as both my kids are/will be in school so I'll have to fill them in for before/after school club, but I've heard thats' four form... what a nightmare.
So I apply for my childcare using the from off the NSH site that, and that from is also for your bursey?????
You never said where you were going to be studying?

Yes you need to complete a CCG1 form in addition to completing section 9 of the PN1 form.
The CCG1 can be found here http://www.studentfinancedirect.co.uk/pls/portal/docs/PAGE/SPIPG001/SPIPS001/SPIPS008/SFD%20CCG1%20FORM%200809.PDF
You will then need to fill in CCG2 forms giving your actual costs later on in the year.
On the CCG1 you need to give estimates of how much your childcare costs each week. Please make sure you give the weekly figure! It causes delays if the LEA has to write to you to ask for clarification.
I would also recommend that if you are not sure that you underestimate your costs. The childcare will be paid based on your estimates directly to you. The amount you are entitled to will then be adjusted to reflect your actual costs.
This means if you underestimated you will have an extra bit of money to come when you hand in your CCG2 and you are reassessed.
If you overestimated you will have been overpaid - most people have spent the money by the time an overpayment comes to light which can be quite distressing.0 -

Thanks, so how do i estimate my costs if I'm not sure what hours I need, depending on my scheduele which I won't get till spetember.
This is where I start to get stressed
The form I looked at was from the NHS and was for my bursery, and it has a part for childcare in, is that a seperate from I need to fill in or do I fill one or the other?
When I find it I will post the link so you know what I mean, ( not that I think you won't understand me, but I'll post it anyway

Hi!
I am going to Portsmouth, I was offered a place at Sussex too but despite the world telling me I should go there I found Portsmouth so much nicer.
I too am doing Access at the mo and am on the final leg with all my projects right now, as much as I love it I cant wait for it to be over!
Some days im excited about uni some days scared stiff! My DH will be doing Access in Sep so we will be a family of students! No idea how I am going to budget everything that really scares me, maybe I should look at the budget thing on here but
its hard when you have payments all over the place eh?
I still have to pinch myself when i think about going to uni, cant believe I have a place after all the years I have wanted to go too.Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!0 -

Well done for getting in. I was told to go to Sheffiled Uni as oppose to Hallam, bit of snobbery I think, but the Hallam S/W degree has been established for longer and Im told has much better resorces.
I've only got a couple of assignments left to do, and of course my research project, which is getting me down to be honest. The final deadline for all are work is the 9th June.
Well done to your hubby for doing access, and just think you'll be able to help/advice him too!.
Money is my single biggest worry about uni.Not that I think I won't manage, because as a single mum coming off benefits I've learned to live within my means, however it's all the uncertainty until I know how much I'll be getting so I can work out a budget. Have you applied for your bursery yet?
We'll be able to compare notes over the next 3 years see how we're getting on.

SORRY ignore what I put before I must have looking at another from because this doesn't have a section for childcare..
I swear i looked at one from the NHS that had a section for childcare.. AArrgghhh will do my head in now till I find it again and figure out what I was looking at.
EDIT.. ok I've worked it out, there was a part of the form that had childcare part to it, but that's for post grad students only. Thought I was going mad then ..0 -
Sallylizzie you will be better off than you were on benefits, I know eventually you will have to pay a student loan but that is so far into the future it is not something to concern ouself with during your first degree.
Mummyoffour, welcome to Portsmouth, during your first weeks induction, the finance department will give a small talk. Make a point of going to the finance department as they have classes on help with budgeting throughout the year. Also you should be entitled to some help from the access funds worth filling in the form anyway. Are you moving here or commuting as you can get some help with travel as well.
I'm not sure but I think there is a limit of £149 a week per child payable on childcare grant, you get 85% of costs0 -
I've been told I'll be better off, as long as I'm not worse off I'll be ok and I don't mind.
I live in private rented, so I'm worried about losing my HB when I start uni, my rent is £475 so thats a chunk off my budget. I've been told I won't get HB as I'll get too much in bursery etc.
