Vista start up programe disableing HELP plz ?

Hi
This problem is really cracking me up infact i feel like throwing lap top !!

I have explored into this problem and still cannot get to the bottom of it , its so annoying ! when i put lap top on it takes ages to get to desk top because there are so many programmes running in start menue

I have gone to windows defender where there is a list off start up programes i high light the prog i want to disable in the left pannel it then shows up on the right panel
and i would imagine that what iam supposed to do then is choose one off the options which are remove , disable or enable ?
problem is these three choices are not choosable as they are not letting me highlight them
Any mse experts on vista home basics plz

thanks

Try going to the Start Menu / RUN & type in MSCONFIG then enter. On the Startup tab just untick the programs you want to stop.
If you haven't got a Run option goto Explorer & you will find it in the Windows / System32 folder

Forget about trying this using windows defender.

Just click Start and in the Search box type: msconfig

This will open the System Configuration utility. Click the Startup tab at the top and untick all those programs you don't want to start with windows...then apply/ok/reboot and that should be it!

Be careful not to untick essential programs in the list like firewall/antivirus/video drivers etc

Edit: dkpoole types faster than me lol

Best thing to do is Google each program then decide
If something stops working you just go back in & retick the box
But don't stop any security programs
Synaptics will be for your mouse - presume it's a laptop
ATICCC is something to do with your graphics card - I would say leave both of these alone
Acrobat is just your .pdf reading program & I dont see why you should have it start up

Tyupe in the startup extension from msconfig menu for each item into the following search and it will tell you what its for and whether you can shut it down or not. Even some graphics and processor startups can be diasbled but check them in the search first.

if you go to the link and in the search within the page type in the startup program name that you see in msconfig startup menu.

For Example type in "ATICCC" and it tell you its for changing settings for your ATI graphics. You dont need it really unless you regularly change your grahpics settings so can disable it.

Do this for all the other entries listed and it will tell you what you need and what you don't.

Regards to the pop up. Its something to do with Windows defender, however I haven't had the problem so don't know how to disable it.

    EDIT:

click link to tell you how to disable popup
