LloydsTSB curtesy call!!!!

Today I recieved a phone call from Lloydstsb. They asked me top veriy my name and address so they knew they were talking to me. I refused as they could have been anyone. I took their number and called them back. This time they wanted my account number and sort code. I told them I wasn't going to give out that kind of information over the phone and went into my bank to complain. The bank verified it was them calling. But honestly, it could've been anyone!"!!!Just wanted a rant really. What would you have done ?Would you have given out your details?

Halifax are always phoning my husband. last time he was on the phone to them he told the woman it was more than his life was worth to divulge any information to them as his wife would kill him. Where he gets that idea from I do not know:A. He now passes the phone to me when we get phone calls like that.

Even the number they ask you to call back on could be a number setup by a scammer unless you already recongise the number belonging to the bank.
  • I had the same thing with HSBC. They phoned me on my mobile, saying they wanted to update their records, wanted all my info including my address and who I worked for...and not only that but the woman was really rude. I told her that they had my address because I was receiving my statements and they could see who I worked for from my salary credits! Then I called the call centre and queried the whole thing. They confirmed it was my local branch calling me and I asked for a note to be put on my account that I would call them if I wanted amything. result - no more calls.

I couldn't believe any genuine caller would be that rude, so I told her nothing!

if in doubt call or call into your bank.

    You don't do that.

If you have reasonable doubt .... you look up their number and ring back. You don't ring on one they give you, whilst on the 'phone!
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !

If it's a 'courtesy call', that means it's a sales call, and I not only don't tell them anything but certainly won't ring them back.
