They don't issue them by default anymore, you have to request one. And if you have a high enough score they'll give you one.

Lloyds TSB is my main account -I have a platinum card, but my account is just classic all the others I just transfer between £1-2k leave it there for a few days ie Lloyds just after 15th - 21st/22nd whenever they update my score. Going to be doing same with HSBC as I heard they are the dogs wotsits!.

I am going to close the santander one soon as had it since sept 09 and as yet no upgrade on my card!!! but they pay nice interest rate on my £2500. Tried to get a Alliance & Leciester just for interest but they said not lived at my address for 5 years or something mad. I'll apply again in 6mths.

I also get a fiver of halifax per month and RBS I use as they have a branch in my village so if I get a cheque to pay in it's easier.

I was informed run them for 3-4 years and close them as it helps??

Yeah popped in this morning it was pretty cool to be honest he just clicked down the page £100 cheque guarantee card and boom. He did then say I could have a credit card at £2500 zero percent bt or something but he said If my salary goes in for a few months I'd get a higher limit.

Think I remember reading NID saying if you leave it 6 months you get the MAX they would give you? either way I am waiting. Pre-Aproved the way forward!!!.

I had 45 searches on my credit file yet they gave me HSBC Advance!! 16 from spreadex on the same day! long story!!! there system wouldn't let me accept on there opening account so I just sat with their advisor telling me & Still they wont remove excess searches!!!!!! Jokers!

Do Northern Rock still open current accounts? I can't find the option to apply for one on their website.

No - I have a Northern Rock Visa Debit Cheque Guarantee card and am not an ATM- only customer :cool:

The letter for Visa Debit holders was printed on the reverse of the letter to ATM-only holders and here is a copy of the reverse side of the letter for your information




I suspect that I am the Northern Rock poster referred in stclair's post 33370217 as I posted that I had received notification from Northern Rock that "northern rock ATM cards are being replaced with visa debits ,it seems there was an insert in there recent statement or something." - on the existing Northern Rock current account thread on this forum - forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=1840239
