Persimmon homes to stop building new houses...

Princesskerry, is the problem down there because of 2nd home owners wanting a weekend home? Where I live there is a bit of a migration from the south (lots of average working people) because of the lower costs up here. Our baby's health visitor has commented on it, apparantly all the one's she sees are happy with the move. We might seem to be in the middle of nowhere but in a 20 mile radius from here we have beaches, moors and are close to Durham and Newcastle.0

knowing persimmons they will bury their heads in the sand and refuse to drop their price
Even if they were 2bn in debt they'd still refuse to discount
They seem to think they are better than everyone else, when in reality (based on internet research) they are one of/if not 'the' worst!!
That is exactly what they have done. Their chairman is trying to get the government to bail them out. He claims that if stamp duty was scrapped or moved substantially (resulting in the tax shortfall being collected from all the rest of us), then it would make their homes more affordable to first time buyers.
There is a much more obvious & dynamic way to make their houses more affordable - cut the margins & drop the prices, but he doesn't like that idea.
This is typical of 21st Century Greed Britain - companies, banks & the rest want to have their cake & eat it. Why the Hell should we pay more in taxes to prop up his business & look after his shareholders interests. Its outrageous.0 -
I have been interested in the development for over a month and confirmed the plot I wished to buy asking to put my deposit down over the phone, they advised not to as it would be ok for one week and to come in the following weekend, which we did and it had been reserved by someone else!! Not even a phone call to let us know and to save us the journey. I have been looking at other plots and found another similar one I would like asking for discounts and what they could offer, along with asking about parking as my partner has a scooter, even advising that I have a mortgage in principal..............not one single phone call back !! I would think that with all that is going on at the moment they would be chasing buyers but obviously not.0

It always amazes me that even in our small country things are so so different across the countys
The new developments in my area all look amazing...no flats, big detached plots over looking designer bricked roads. They all have landscaped front gardens
I guess it pays to live out in the sticks :rotfl:
Where do you live? You sound very lucky to get a four bedrom detached house for under £200,000 on a development like you've described above!!
Got to say, I live in a Persimmon house and guess what? I love it!!!!0 -

Yes I think it must contribute though I'm sure Cornwall must be worse. We have moors on one side, less then 2 min drive and sea on the other, about 10 min drive though it flows into a river ending next to the road in front of my house.
As far as location goes I love Devon and could never move.
Another person has posted a pic of there new build house and he same house (spec and pics) on a local Wimpey site is double the value at £399k.
Wages down here just wouldn't pay for something like that so I dont really know who is buying them. But they are selling in fact the market is still really moving though prices are dropping it doesn't seem very fast.
I would absolutely love the house we were talking about, maybe in the future it would be achievable.Competition wins - 09/03 - £500 ELC Vouchers 11/04 - Lush Goodies 21/04 - Gillette Fusion Gift Pack 22/05 - Mirrors DVD 29/05 - Return Flights to London & £500 29/05 - £50 Homebase Gift Vouchers 20/09 - Remote Control Helicopter 28/09 - £225 Bingo Win 05/10 £25 Photobox Vouchers 16/09 £90 Cash 30/11 £29 Cash 03/01 £20 03/04 Fifa Football :T0 -

Bills unpaid as affordable homes company goes into administration
BUILDING contractors have been left thousands of pounds out of pocket after the company hired to convert a town centre affordable housing development went into administration.
The firm is Thomas Fish & Sons, a Nottingham-based company, which was hired to oversee the Metropolitan Housing Partnership Bloomsbury development on Guildhall Road, Northampton.
Martin Sellick, from Northampton-based MPS Painting Contractors said he was owed £65,000 and had no idea if he would get it back.
He said: "We had been working for them for 15 months and from about January, we had trouble getting payments and they were coming in late and short. Thankfully my company is in no financial difficulty but it is just frustrating to put time and money into this project and now we won't be getting paid."
Paul Simmons from PDS Painting Contractors in Wellingborough said his company was owed more than £78,000. He said: "We are 100 per cent secure because the company has been going a long time, but this is very unfortunate.
"My main concern is we were told six months ago that there were no financial problems and that everything was fine. That clearly wasn't the case."
Social housing company Metropolitan Housing Partnership, which hired Thomas Fish & Sons, said it had paid the company on time and up to date, and that it had now hired a local contractor to finish the work.
A spokeswoman added: "We are currently assessing the financial impact of this and will be reviewing in due course. Residents are being kept fully informed of the situation as information becomes available, our priority is always our residents.
"The majority of the homes were completed but as you'll appreciate it's always difficult when contracts come to an untimely and abrupt end, and we are continuing to review matters.
"Our overriding priority at this stage is those residents who have moved into their new home and those that are due to move in. Other matters will be considered over the next weeks."
Nobody from Thomas Fish & Sons was available for comment.
