Hi Spaitch
Never been to Kerala but been lots of times to North Goa - we love it.
I've read that there doesn't seem to be lots of bars serving alcohol in Kerala, unlike Goa.
Your problem with hotel prices is probably because you're staying over Christmas/New Year.
I've read that the premium that hotels put on rooms over this period is very high.
Wherever you go, enjoy it.

Goa is on the same side of India as Mumbai, while Kerala is a good deal further. So your honeymoon in Goa might begin with a sea journey or an overnight train ride, while getting to Kerala is likely to involve another flight.
Boats to Goa are very intermittent -.... take the train, bus or fly same for Kerala
I arrived in to Bombay and just went to the ticket office and got the next flight to Goa without booking for £45 (including tax) though if you book you will get a flight very cheaply.
Bus or train is <800 but i would go first class if it was my Honeymoon...0 -
Train from Mumbai to North Goa (can't remember the name of the station but it's not far from Mapusa) takes about 11 or 12 hours.
The train then continues on to Margao (for South Goa).0 -

And trains to Kerala would take a good deal longer. Even with a sleeper, longer than I would want to spend on a train.0 -
Mornin Moneysavers, My other half and I are getting married on December 20th and have flights booked to mumbai on the 21st december returning January the 2nd.
As it's our honeymoon we'd obviously like to go somewher nice and romantic - but we're not made of money ... the websites we've found for accomodation haven't been very helpful and obviously we want to avoid signing up to stay in some horrible hotel for our whole honeymoon !!!
Has anyone got any tips fo great hotels in Goa (or Kerala - if you think it's much better)
Even the skankiest looking hotel seems to be about £50 a night - which is quite frustraiting (but i guess that's our fault for getting married at christmas)
Thanks in advance any tips no matter how big or small gratefully recieved!
Cheers
Can't believe nobody's mentioned the Taj Mahal for a honeymoon trip...if you're going to be in India anyway? Budget flight to Delhi, then a day trip to Agra, maybe stay overnight to see the sunrise or sunset.
From Delhi you can go straight to Goa and only lose about 3 days in total.
How much are you looking to spend on a room....it's Christmas and Goa's turned into rip-off city for the holiday period...the days of cheap accomodation are gone at that time of year.0 -
Yes I think you are certainly looking on the wrong sites, you should be able to get rooms as cheap as £15 in India, try some where like onestophotels.co.uk that compares all the leading hotel suppliers0
