Goa or Kerala - Honeymoon...

Mornin Moneysavers, My other half and I are getting married on December 20th and have flights booked to mumbai on the 21st december returning January the 2nd.

As it's our honeymoon we'd obviously like to go somewher nice and romantic - but we're not made of money ... the websites we've found for accomodation haven't been very helpful and obviously we want to avoid signing up to stay in some horrible hotel for our whole honeymoon !!!

Has anyone got any tips fo great hotels in Goa (or Kerala - if you think it's much better)

Even the skankiest looking hotel seems to be about £50 a night - which is quite frustraiting (but i guess that's our fault for getting married at christmas)

Thanks in advance any tips no matter how big or small gratefully recieved!

Cheers

there is a fort in the very north of goa - can't remember the name ........ but i've mentioned it in a previous thread . try doing a search for goa , it was this year.
any way the fort is absolutely stunning , remote , peacful and only has around 8 rooms and very reasonably priced iirc , beautiful beach around 1.5 miles long , and when we were there , we were the only 2 people on the beach.

as far as i know kerala is more scenic and less touristy, we were meant to go on a side trip to kerala but had to cancel as we managed to get ill for 3 days instead !

I would normally say Goa as i love the place and have been many times (14+) though i would stay in Mumbai for a couple of days for shopping then get the coastal train down south to Kerala. You can stop off in Goa for a couple of days (4 to 5 days) say in South Goa and staying in a place such as The Leela (https://www.theleela.com - they have one in bombay too). Then get the train down to
Kerala and spend say 5 days on the back waters....

Once you have finished i would fly back up to Bombay...

Or if you want to change your plan

I like the above route though if you want to go to one of my dream destinations (Lakshadweep) i would fly into Bombay spend 2 or 3 days then fly down to Cochin spend a day relaxing before taking a small 12 seater plane to Lakshadweep and spending a few days on one of the islands (say 5 days - $250 per night from memory). Flights are $125 from memory then spend the last days on back waters...

That sounds like a nice trip - to me :D (xmas in Lakshadweep).... Just google Lakshadweep i think you will like it though please note you will have nothing to do on the island apart from snorkel and relax. - Think of the Maldives without an international airport :D

I think you are looking on the wrong booking engines then: fifty pounds a night should buy you at least four star luxury in India. I once, for business, stayed in a hotel that had previously hosted President Clinton. Like a palace -- lavish -- and it was around a hundred dollars a night. (But in Hyderabad, which I do not recommend for a honeymoon.) I think the company that runs this, and hotels across India, is called ITC, so they might have something where you want to be.

I later stayed, again for work, in a business hotel run by a company called Kamat Lingapur. Standards were high, and the price was around twenty pounds a night. Again this is a nationwide chain, so they might have what you need. Do be aware that they do not sell alcohol in any of their properties.

Goa and Kerala are both states, each about the same size as England. Both contain some wonderful places, as well as a few that are virtual hell-holes.

Goa is on the same side of India as Mumbai, while Kerala is a good deal further. So your honeymoon in Goa might begin with a sea journey or an overnight train ride, while getting to Kerala is likely to involve another flight.
