you should be a politician peter. you still havent answered a very good question. The NUS does do a hell of a lot more for the intrests of students and local communites than i bet your website does.

Also perhaps you'd like to tell us why your website advertises the student discount card as "FREE" and then when you click on the link it takes you to a page wanting JUST £5 for the card!!

thats probably because the NUS arn't wholely against top-up fees, they're not thick (thou you wouldnt believe it sometimes), they're fully aware, as we all should be, that the extra money students will have to pay isnt going to end up in someones back pocket. The money will be used by the universities to modernise facilities, and spend more on students. The new fees would provide £1bn a year for universities. How can that be a bad thing? If you compare the funding system in this country to say USA, Australia or even some european countries you'll see that £3000 a year is nothing compared to the $30000 you'd pay going to harvard.

Its important to remember (or learn, as most people i tell this to didnt realise...) that in future nothing will be paid up front. You will only begin paying back the fees when you graduate and are on a £15000 salary, repaid through the student loans system.

People will have to start planning for the future if they want to go to uni, american parents set up college funds the day their kids are born. Maybe its time we did the same over here.

Get used to it. Its coming and its here to stay.

..and still no-one knows of a specific discount that this card will get you over and above an NUS or non-NUS student card.

    Edited to add:

I've just been to the site and looked for the benefits of the card. No specifics are mentioned, other than:

? Free drinks in bars around your city
    ? Queue jumps into nightclubs
    ? Free entry into nightclubs
? Discounts on food in restaurants and cafés
? Loads of great shopping discounts down the high street
    ? Discounts on text books

so in other words, they are not going to tell you what all the fantastic discounts actaully are until you give them the money.

All discounts are going publicly live next week... i suppose that will be a good time to judge?

The NUS is indeed a huge organisation, but what do they actually do for students? It's right that a lot of student unions are moving away from paying up to £20,000 a year to be affiliated with them.

Our student site (https://www.funky.co.uk) is a community for students to meet each other before they go to uni and find out more about student life. Our brand spanking new site goes live next week - so those who are quick to judge could do with waiting a bit longer again?

Studentdiscounts.co.uk was a free card during it's trial last year in Leeds, but due to it's success we have expanded it into a further 7 cities and will continue to move into further cities over the next 2 years - ultimately covering all highly populated student areas.

I'm really sorry if you are narrow minded or don't agree with our sites or the businesses we're running, but we do take all constructive criticism on board to endeavour to improve our services to the student sector.
