f**king hsbc i am gonna scream.....

this one will make you laugh or scream! i am going on the laughing side, as its so stupid that its the best thing i can do!

the delightful HSBC sent me another letter today! Finally agreeing to my dmp plan to pay them £49ish a month to them to clear our credit card and od.:j

however the following bit just shows how fantastic hsbc are as a bank....not!!

"we will agree to this debt but only if you take out a consolidation loan with us at 12. something % over the next 90 months!"

Now the following just shows how stupid they are:

1. we do not have an od with them, cleared last week and letter dated this week ( so obviously checked our account didn't they!??)

2. They want loan in both mine and dh name even though both od and card in dh name only, we do have a jont bank account with them but this is not in debt!so they want me to take responsibility for this debt too?nice! ( not that we see the debts we have as his, mine, we see it as ours).

3. they want us to lose our dmp as we will have to break t&c's as we would be taking out additional credit.

4. they are happy to help us but will add interest, putting us in even more debt- i think not!

5. they want us to take it over 90 months:eek: but if they agree to the dmp now they would have all the money we owe them in less than that! think we are looking at 6 years to clear all debt.:D

i love it! i can not believe they would even suggest this? surely they have some obligation to acknowledge we are in difficulty and should not be allowing us more credit and blately put us in further debt?

really want to write them a really snotty letter at how appaling they are and spout some quotes or something that hows they are certainly breaking the law or banking code or somthing!!(hope they are)anyone suggest anything, love to totally screw them over as they are a disgusting bank. :D

Can you pass it on to the DMP co to deal with, surely they will have some stern things to say? I bank with HSBC and when my ex ran up my mastercard and left they said it was my fault and insisted I take the managed loan, I did because I felt backed into a corner and didnt know better back in 2003. I have stayed with them and now I am not struggling they are fine, they just have no idea how to deal with people who are. My mum went OD by £1.73 with them, by the time they had piled on charges it came to over £100 then they gave her no notice and closed it, she went in one day and they said sorry you no longer bank here. Bless em!!
  • so far looking at the bankers code they seem to be failing on the following 2 points:
    • We will lend responsibly.
    • We will deal quickly and sympathetically with things that go wrong and consider all cases of financial difficulty sympathetically and positively.
    will keep looking!
  • eeeekkkk! i have missed 2 calls from hsbc this morning while i have been out, the a/p msg is actually fro my own bank asking us to give them a call back as soon as we can. honestly they are keen !guessing they will just try bullying me into accepting loan so will avoid calling them back!

I would call back and politely decline, they cant force you to take out the managed loan, even more so as its not even your debt.

This is standard practice for them to offer that kind of thing - don't go for it and speak to your DMP people, but I would write and tell them why you are turning it down and what they are breaking in terms of the bankers code. They think we are idiots!

hi , be very careful ! You have a joint account ? They can and will raid a account to pay another debt , be it on a Credit card . They will do this with no warning and just after you have been paid. I would strongly advise you opened a account with a unrelated bank !

thank you stapeley, we dont have a active bank accout with them just an old empty joint account!( i dont think i put it very clear-sorry!) i would never bank with them again after a terrible experience i had with them about 18 months ago where they lost my money and then charged me for bounced dd, going over my od and anything else they could think of! they did eventually find my money, they had made a mistake (ooops on there part!) but still haven't refunded all my charges etc! they then managed to send my bank details to a lady with the same name as me , oh and similar road name! if it wasn't for the nice lady finding my number in the book and calling me i would have never of known!they admitted an error after i practically strangled them but didnt seem a bit bothered!grrr!absolute joke of a bank!

to add my 2 p worth, its USUALLY to the customers advantage to accept a managed loan with a bank IF its the last resort. My experience is just this.. By going on a managed loan senario, it doesnt affect your credit rating, only with that bank and also your bank account info doesnt change.. yes, the APR tends to be high but you dont have to acccept it. Should you not pay as per agreed, they prob would issue a final emand for the toal amount owing, creating a bigger problem for you in the short term.
  • Hi Pink

We had a letter like this from HSBC so i rang CCCS and they said don't touch it with a barge pole, so we didn't. They have since defaulted us and now accepted the terms we were offering through the DMP. It just makes you wonder though how many people who are not so cynical fall for this

But the original poster is on a DMP which means she could end up with frozen interest so not the case!

Definately please ignore this advice not applicable to you at all!
