Just a quick one- totally agree that Freecycle is brilliant- remember you can join any local group..I joined mine, but also joined another area which is considerably posher and within reasonable distance from me and find this area throws out really top notch stuff which is often nearly new.

Also, have you tried your local SCRAPSTORE- these are council run recycling centres and alladins caves- for a small yearly fee (I paid £5 but each area is different)you can go to the scrapstore and help yourself to anything and take it away- example of stuff I have recently picked up...party bag toys (originally off the front of magazines), carpet tiles (brand new), shower curtain, range of greetings cards with envelopes, tile paint, enough material to make 2 double duvet covers (Laura Ashley), pens and pencils for kids, craft material for kids, roll of carpet underlay, loads of greaseproof paper for baking, DVDs/Games from recycled surplus magazines, books, make up, kids comics.....all free!!!! Certainly worth a look...I often pop to mine when I am desparate for a shop but have no money...I can walk in, choose anything I like and not have to worry about paying for it..

Best of luck with everything (although as I have just been discharged after going bankrupt last year, I will not pretend to offer you any real debt advice!!!..better leave that to the solvent ones amongst us!!!)
  • I am having a really bad day i woke up late to rush around to get my daughter to school on time whew made it to get home to a letter from halifax telling me they were charging me for going overdrawn £35

so i rang them up to ask what??? they then informed me i had gone 1p over drawn and that they wouldnt cancel the charge as i have had a charge returned already this year (which was a bank error not mine) and so i would have to pay the charge:mad:

can today keep getting worse hmm better not tempt fate

What happens when you tell them it was due to bank error and that £35 is a big deal to you and you need it to start getting on the road out of debt?
Time to get reading Martins tips on re-claiming bank charges to see if there is anything there that helps you out. 1p overdrawn does not justify a £35 charge and the basis of reclaiming unfair bank charges is that any charges should be in proportion to the service / overdraft provided.
