For example, choice-wise I have never been that fussy. I mean - I buy whatever brand is on the best deal. If I go to Asda thinking I might buy some beef, but then find some nice pork reduced to clear, I'll buy that instead and find something tasty to do with it. I think most oldstylers are the same
Quality, on the other hand, I'm quite a bit more fussy about, and I can't really see that changing in certain areas. For example, unless they were literally the ONLY sort you could buy, I can't see myself going back to non free range eggs. If the cost went through the roof I'd buy fewer of them - bake more no-egg recipes, and so on.
I also don't see myself ever going back to using a lot of the processed muck which often works out really cheap. In my first year as a student I lived on ham sandwiches (value bread and value reconstituted ham), and No Frills burgers from Kwik Save! And it wasn't out of financial necessity either. I mean, yes, I was skint, but if I'd known then what I know now (i.e. my general domestic skills, and the knowledge of what's actually IN that stuff) I could easily have had the same quality of diet as I have now, within the budget I had at the time... In fact the amount I spend on (good) food now is barely more than the amount I spent on complete and utter rubbish then - and that was ten years ago.Operation Get in Shape

I wouldn't turn down 2.2% - better than a slap in the chops. We now get no benefits at work - they've even just removed our water coolers! (That's why I leave on Monday )0

We haven't had any pay rises either. Company used to supply herbal tea bags and that got stopped, we still have coffee vending machines which are free but you know its bad when someone pinches the new bottle of washing up liquid left out to wash our cups! :eek:CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. your not alone in being fed up. I've recently started a part time job. my travel expenses have gone up to £30 a week and they've reduced my child tax credits by £25.03. I work for 21 hours ar £6 an hour. So its costing me £55 to go to work and I earn £126 a week126-55=71 71 divided by 21 =3.38So in effect I'm working for £3.38 an hour. Its sickening."The purpose of Life is to spread and create Happiness" :j0

we had a 1.75% rise last year.. and 0.75% this year... we are getting poorer by the day as no doubt a huge number of others are! They do both go up but not in line with one another. I am having to ebay everything we don't use (which we no doubt don't need anyway!) just to keep our heads above water.. this isn't how it is meant to be!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

No, you're right Pigpen it isn't how its meant to be. Hearing adverts on the radio this morning I'd love to be able to be in a position that OH and I could go for a meal out whenever we fancied rather than plan it all out and work out how much it'll cost us in fuel and parking never mind for the food! Hence we've only done it twice since January and even then we went to places I have vouchers for.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. I think the answer to that one is that we're all supposed to take the extra jobs that we're told there's lots of out there and then that means more tax money for the government and the population with less time on their hands.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera.
