We've noticed prices going up as well, so we've been starting to move down one level on the food. Going from brand on some things to store brand. We already use store brand on quite a lot of what we purchase, but are now slowly moving more to store brand. It's one of the less painful ways of cutting the food bill.

Avoid the very low fat marg as its nearly all water & not suitable for baking.

Food prices are a pain but you'd better get used to it........ An article from the Guardian..

Prices go up & our wages go down, well mine will, along with a lot of others, courtesy of the chancellor's alterations to the income tax. I already buy value brands for most things, where do we go from here?

    Hi

I'm finding it hard to get the balance right. Having always had overstocked cupboards for years, it feels strange not having certain things 'in' as back up. I really don't like running out of things. THis in itself isn't ridiculous, but if I don't have plans to use a certain item that week, why do I need it replacing immediately?

Jan and Feb were fine, just bought what I needed for that week. March went t*t$ up with overspend.... I did all the replacing at the beginning of the month, with the conseequence that there wasn't enough £ left to complete the weekly top up with fruit/veg/dairy.

So I'm back to buying what I need for the week ahead. I have a meal plan, so this should be absolutely possible.

I know what you mean, I work full time and seem to spend every lunch hour shopping for food

I have now changed this so I do a sainsbugs delivery at the beginning of the month (for OH's tuna tins supply as he's fussy ;)) and some other cans and bits I don't want to have to carry.

Then I shop for the bits each week. I go to smallish Tesco at the beginning of the week (1 mile from work) and then go to Aldi at the end of the week (also about a mile from work). Although I seem to end up going to Tesco 2 or 3 times a week quite often as walking means I can't carry that much

I found that if I actually walk there and back, I feel like I've at least done something for me - exercise (sit at a desk all day).

Some weeks I decide I'm too tired and just get most of what I need in Tesco and be done with.

I went for just the essentials today as last weeks shop was £90 (usually spend £50 but I took OH with me, sigh!) and we didn't need a lot to top it up with this week really.

The only things I bought extra were an 80p magazine and some lipgloss and managed to spend £46, I hardly had anything! was expecting it to be £25-£30 max!

    It's getting ridiculous now

I can't eat butter/spreads on sandwiches, and Willow is the only one I can tolerate on toast.

I bought some 2/3 weeks ago in Iceland - it's gone from 70p/pack to 85p/pack, and from £1 for 2 to £1.25 for 2.

Willow was/is 66p in Tesco - so cheaper to get it there.
