o2 refurbished phone

What does it mean when a phone is sold on th o2 site as refurbished?

Has it been used, or just ordered and sent back? I cannot see any reference on the site explaining exactly what refurbished means.

Anyone know?
Nice to save.

  • It has been sold and then returned. Mobiles are returned for a variety of reasons. Every one that comes back is dead money if it can't be resold so they are tested and fixed if necessary.

The condition depends on how old it was when it was returned. You may get lucky and get a fairly new one. You should expect some minor cosmetic damage (scratches or scuffs) but nothing too serious.

Check out what accessories it comes with. They are not always returned so they are not always supplied with refurbished models either. You should expect the phone, a battery and a mains charger as minimum.

There are good deals available on refurbished phones in some of the shops too so you can see what you are getting.
  • will i be able to return it if for example if it is scratched?
    Nice to save.
  • Check the details of their returns policy.
Most things bought over the internet come under the 'distance selling' laws which give you 14 days to change your mind.
Some companies insist you contact them and get a returns number first.
You normally have to pay return postage and you need postal insurance if it is an expensive item.
'Special delivery next day' costs about 4 pounds up to 0.5kg and is insured up to 250 pounds.

If you expect the phone to look like your old one when it was 6 months old (not necessarily the same model though! ;)) you won't be far wrong. Perfectly OK to use, but you may not want to give it to someone as a gift.

If you are buying the phone on a contract then do NOT activate the new SIM card if you want to return the phone.

A lot of these 'refurbished' phones are one that have been returned under the contract cooling off period - they can't be sold as new so they are checked over and then sold on. They may have some minor scratches but there should be nothing major.
