I know what you mean mum.
We have 7 children and run a minibus. We live in a rural area with little/no transport; and to be honest, even if there was a better system, it's ludicrously expensive here, and it would actually cost more to use public transport than bundle us all into the minibus.
Ebay has had auctions for instructions on this for years, but we've never been brave enough to try it. Loads ofpeople have suggested it, but I think they're just hoping somene daft enough to risk their car would give it a go.
I think if you're gonna give it a whirl, you would need to have a cheapy cheap car that you could practice on , so if it wrote it off, it wouldn't matter.
One other point, where would you get enough chip fat?I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -
theres an email doing the rounds saying if we all used petrol from anywhere other than bp or shell then they would have to take action themselves. i always use tesco if everyone did the same ie sainsburys asda etc then the big two would have to pull there finger out.0

If you google it too you will find many in this country one of which is in wolves . I emailed http://www.dieselveg.com/ and the conversion for my D4D corolla was £1600 . The DIY kit is around the £475 mark . You need to mail them to see if your car will be compatible .
Actually, diesel engines were initially conceived to be running on vegetable oil, since they couldn't have diesel fuel before they had diesel engines, could they? the diesel fuel was a subsequent refinement to make fuel for these engines cheaper.
still today, all diesel engines would run happily on vegetable oil, if it were not for the fact that the modern (post-90's) injection and warm-up systems would possibly clutter with vegetable oil (that's why your friend is moving to vegetable only after the warm-up phase).
in italy, lots of newspapers have raised the issue, as plenty of people have started buying low cost vegetable oil (which costs sensibly less than diesel fuel, due to the lack of specific taxes; production cost of fuel is lower, but vegetable oil isn't taxed as fuel) and mixing it with actual fuel into their cars - it works fine as long as the percentage is not too big to create problems at startup.
however, the government is strongly repressing this, since, even if it would be more environmentally-friendly, it would amount to a significant tax loss (and is thus illegal).0 -
Following hurricane Katrina, it seems fuel is set to increase significantly more.
But let's look on the bright side, at least we're not homeless, living in a virtual war zone, hungry, thirsty, and fearing for our lives and the lives of our children.
Remember them in our prayers we must.I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Drove through Swindon today Tescos was 90p (and I think they have deals where if you shop with them you get a further 5p off etc) a litre of Diesel. Marlborough just down the road was 108p a litre!!!!!!
So thats a difference of £10.80 to fill my 60lt tank.
Shop around folks!0 -
My unleaded here in tesco south wales is at 97p yesterday
CHIP FAT,
You can buy clean veg oil in 3 litre bottles from supermarkets, the cheaper you can get it obviously the better it is. If you mix this with diesel in 40% oil to 60% diesel You should have no trouble, in winter you might have to come down to 30%.
You should also pay duty on this @ 27p per litre to Customs. If you are running on chip oil it can be sniffed out side your car, a policeman might ask you about it and if you can't show that you have paid the duty you will be in court and probably get a fine of around 350 - 500 pounds. You can also theoretically lose your car too. But none of this will happen if you can show you have paid the duty to customs. You can use 50% but only in hot weather and only after first trying the other two percentages start on 30% and work your way up.
I want to sell my petrol cars and get a diesel for this reason, but I haven't got round to doing it yet.0 -

My diesel is pretty new so I am not willing to chance it at the minute.
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0
