    I've been Money Tipped!
A friend of mine once said that if petrol cost as much in the US as it does here there would be riots. Look at it now, petrol costing in the States 6 dollars a gallon, US that is not UK so isn't that less or is my maths to pot. A friend of mine in Germany who works in Luxembourg fills up in Luxembourg rather than Germany as the fuel is subsidised in some way as Luxembourg is so wealthy, banking capital etc.

The cost of clothing is going to be going up due to China meeting their quotas etc, then the cost of petrol/diesel etc is through the roof again so the transport costs for getting things to supermarkets etc will go up, particularly so for the people on the Outer Hebrides etc and also the cost of petrol/diesel is going to be exorbitant for them.

  • 6% VAT in Lux versus 16% in Germany helps even without a difference in fuel duties..... (my pal lives in Belgium and it's 21% VAT there - so even better for him :D)

In many cases it helps if you say where you are - someone with local knowledge might be able to give local specifics rather than general advice

Is it any wonder so many people buy 'dodgy' cigs or run their cars on 'red' diesel??

It is only when enough people ignore a law then the law becomes unenforceable.

Petrol and whiskey is taxed because the gov can get the petrol and distillery companies to do their tax-collecting for them.

BTW petrol and whiskey companies like the high taxes coz it makes it easy for them to hide their own prices (& increases).

One clever ploy is by the whiskey companies - as follows

    std blended bottle - £12 - £8 duty = £4 gross profit
    single malt - £25 - £8 duty = £17 gross profit

You can't tell me it costs over 4 times as much to make, distribute and sell a single malt as it does a blended??

Similary filling stations bleat 'we only make 1a couple of pence per litre', well if they bump the price by 1p their takes goes up by 50% (nice little earner!!)

So you see they are more than happy to keep collecting Gordon's pennies!!!

What we need is a revolution!!!
  • 99.9 by us today too. Interestingly the other Shell garage two miles down the road 95.9 (and they're usually the more expensive one).

My husband is never going in the car again!!!!

  • We have a desiel, I have heard you cna run them off chip fat, anybody know anything about this?
I cant afford the £60 plus a week we are paying anymore, we have to drive coz of where we live and there is no public transpot that we could use to get us to where we need to go.

Anyway four children on a bus is not my idea of fun.
Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!
