Hi
Yes you have my blessing to take the laptop to Southampton.
Wireless use in a hospital may not be allowed. However patients can access TV and the internet from their bedside unit at a weekly charge (quite high charges).
To use the laptop, you need a usb style wireless dongle.
I cannot offer any advice on your husbands operation at this time, however I wish your husband a speedy recovery.0 -
AVG Free 8.0 is availble tomorrow, but you don't have to upgrade if you don't want to, not yet anyway.
As for your laptop, you can take it where you like. Not being wireless simply means you won't have internet access, unless you can plug it in to someone elses router. If you don't need internet access where your going then just take the laptop with the power lead.
Russ- Google is your friend, use it :rolleyes:0 -

Lets start with the laptop model, we know its a Packard Bell, just to make sure there's no wireless already there.
Connecting to hotels they charge very high rates.
Connecting out and about everyone it seems you need to register and pay again very high daily rates
Some pubs and coffee shops might give free access though, but not tried. I will check this out in London for you in the next two days. You can buy in any electrical outlet a usb device, or a PCMCIA unit that might fit in a slot down the edge of your laptop. Buy Linksys, Belkin, 3Com, D-Link i.e. well known brands and you get proper online tec support and customer web access.
PM me as this message is falling by the wayside now.0 -

Hi
What would be really helpful would be the model number of the laptop .If you're lucky it should be right under the screen .
The USB wireless dongle would more than likely be the best option.
I would probably go for something like this
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/6766647/Trail/searchtext%3ENETWORKING+ACCESSORIES.htm
I'm sure somebody else will be along shortly to offer something better.
I only picked Argos as you had mentioned it earlier and it may be easy for you to collect .0 -
