PAYG Tariff Comparisons

Hi Everybody,

I'm due an upgrade soon on my O2 Contract (Online 500), and my average bill is over 40GBP each month. I'm really not using the free minutes/texts/internet as much as I should, and the price is being driven up by the company calls (Banking etc.) which are not included in my free minutes.

I'm looking into PAYG, as I like the rental is cheap (theoritcally ZERO). I was just wondering if anybody knew of any websites that have a table comparing the PAYG Tariffs at all?

I'm sure I'm not the first person to go through this so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

*I do try and call the area coded numbers to use up my minutes when calling companies, but sometimes these are not always listed. And I will batter down my contract as much as I can and compare it with PAYG*

Thanks in advance,

R2ROV2k

You'll probably have to go to each provider's website in turn and make your own notes, as it all depends on your use of your phone.

I barely use a phone except for the occasional texts, plus it's there if I have a real emergency, so I've got the T-Mobile PAYG on the 'Text Appeal' plan . This means that if I have to make a call it will cost me quite a bit, but sending texts to ANY network costs only 3p each. :D Plus the minimum top-up amount is only £5, so I don't have a lot of money sitting there doing nothing.

There are also two other plans to choose from depending on whether you call or text most.

try onecompare.com. you enter details of how many mins and texts you will use a month and it will compare all PAYG tariffs and give you the cheapest. If you use a lot of mins say over 300 a month, it's probably cheaper being on contract
  • One cannot add 'bundles' to PAYG plans right?

if your manly using 08 numbers comparison tables probably wont help because they wont usually show this rate (likely to be different from the normal rate) check each network individually

if you are still using inclusive mins/texts aswell then have a look at sim only plans, a £15 one for example can give 225mins and 100 texts and then the 08 numbers on top

Thanks everyone for tips and suggestions.

In the end I managed to finagle a great little o2 contract, which gave me a snazzy new phone and a GREAT tariff... All thanks to the batter down your mobile article.

A little tip that helps me get by on my minutes is trying to find the non-08 number (for instance the number that international callers would dial), which is usually a normal phone number, that takes up my minutes and not my wallet.

Have you tried using http://www.saynoto0870.com/ ?

It's quite complete, covers most companies and allows you to find the geographic alias for non-geographic numbers, for example Natwest product information (0800 200 400, which won't be free from a mobile) points to 0121 6351592 which would be usable within your minutes and, when it comes to PAYG, is usually cheaper.

Hope that helps in the future.
