^^ I don't think I can 100% blame the lady. In fact, I'm not sure anyone needs to be blamed because, well, nothing happened
. If I had actually pulled out on her (rather than released the brake, looked around, seen her and reapplied the brake) then we would be talking about a rather different situation.
I don't think it's worth reporting to the police... I live in a big (and very violent) city, so a) it's probably not worth their trouble, and b) he might be even worse than we all think, and worth avoiding upsetting further!Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
^^ Me too - I obviously only saw everything from my point of view, so I'd be fascinated to see CCTV footage... I've written everything as factually as I possibly can but of course there will be natural bias.
I can only reiterate - I didn't pull out. I was preparing to pull out, sure, but not before one final quick look around. My foot didn't touch the accelerator.Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
What a nasty piece of work he was.
We have all been there hard to gentle nudge out to see whats coming, then you get some half wit over reacting and trying to bully people0 -
But did it save you being ripped off by Kwik Fit?
Guys a knob, ignore and move on0 -
Sadly, I'm the type of personality that, if I feel at all guilty about a situation, I'll remember it forever. That's why I'm always nice to anyone - if I, even unintentionally, cause someone else pain, I feel it threefold.
I can still remember a similar situation on a Zebra crossing in 2003 (I was the pedestrian this time, and the car full of young men deliberately sped over the crossing - even though traffic from the other direction had long stopped - and then yelled at me for nearly stepping off the kerb). I get upset whenever I think back to that!
I know cognitively speaking that I should just ignore it and get over it - and if I could 100% cite the blame with him I'd do that - but I can't, so I'll be living with it forever now. Booze to get over the initial pain, then gradual dimming, never quite fading away...Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
He acted like an animal - sorry, that is an injustice to animals! It was his girlfriend that showed no road sense - you had a million things to concentrate on, she had a huge lump of metal to observe, and observe she did, and walk in front of it.
Neaderthal boyfriend, probably full of cider, strong lager, possibly other substances too, sees stupid (probably bleached blonde bimbo) walk in front of your car. He is enraged, his one brain cell is on overload, and he reacts in the only abusive way he can, being brought (dragged) up by similar stupid neanderthal father and swears, (he missed his English lessons at school and therefore only learnt certain words) and in his way, (he knows no other) he says, please nice lady driver, be careful of my lovely girlfriend who has no road sense. Sadly, his words come out slightly differently.

Hi Badger_Lady
Thank God nobody is hurt and I hope you will feel much better by tomorrow (or after choclate and wine!) He was by no mean a man. A man is not an XY chromosomes thing only., a man is a behaviour and morals and that creature is noway near any of being a man.
On one hand, You said you released the brakes, but didn't touch the accelator. ell, it is automatic car you are driving and, as you know, it will move if you release the brakes. To move 1 inch or two in a manual car you will need to press the gas pedal and releas the clutch alittle bit, which is by definition is moving off. As you must be well aware, you need to do your checks before moving the car, let that be by releasing the breaks in an automatic car or by releasing the clutch and slightly depressing the gas pedal in a manual car. You didn't check your mirrors around the car and the blind spots before letting the car move forward. If the unthinkable has happened, you would be at fault.
On the other hand, the girl has a duty of care of her own safety and other users of the road. She should have used her common sense and tried to pass behind the car or at least try to catch your eyes before crossing in front of your car. She was at wrong, but, if the unthinkable has happened, she might be a little bit at fault.
In everyday driving, we should do the checks we used to do when we tried to pass our driving tests, but, me, like others, don't do them all the time.
Well done for slamming the brakes so quickly.Be nice, life is too short to be anything else.0 -

Just focus your gaze on the person in the approaching car and STARE at them, STARE at them, STARE at them between the eyes, don't take your gaze off of them .... works everytime.
If it doesn't it's funny when they have to stop directly in front of you and you keep staring at them :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -
If it's any consolation from reading your initial statement I think you were in an unfortunate situation which could happen to most people. I don't think the men watching necessarly thought it was your fault at all and probably felt quite bad for you. Don't worry about getting emotional. If I was there and saw what you described I'd feel quite bad for you and dislike the aggressive male thug. Don't let it bother you, but next time, back your car over the man so he doesn't bother anyone else ;-)0
