Pipkin that is well out of order, and you know it! It's vile, really. I totally disagree. Why have you not commented on Broken hearted's opinions of those who went bankrupt? Did you thank Broken hearted when she commented on my friend not providing for herself, even though that is not what I said. Why not tell Broken hearted that that was a vile way for her to get her kicks? Why not tell her she was out of order?
Have you posted telling Broken hearted she was out of order when she commented on sob stories? That she was out of order because she posted how people choose not to pay the council tax bill? That people have no pride for going down the bankruptcy route. Did you not think that was vile too?
No. However, I am out of order for drawing comparisons. I don't think so.
You too, oddjob! You are both baiting and when BH comes back to defend herself, you'll cry 'bully'. Now, just remind me, where exactly did I see that before? Again, I have never been bullied by anybody on here, so I doubt I would. You don't need reminding where you saw it, and I stand by what I said. I disagree on baiting. Broken hearted made several comments before I said what I did.
This is supposed to be discussion time, not let's try and wind everyone up time. Everyone has opposing views, and of course they are all entitled to that, but the minute someone says something that you don't agree with they get jumped on? very very true. You've just done it yourself. So, why is that, and why have you not pointed that out to other posters who jump on things? Why are you only pointing that out to me? Broken hearted had made several very unfair comments before I made my post. I stand by my post - I clearly stated I have no right to make assumptions, and I don't. Neither does Broken hearted
Or, the minute someone disagrees with something, they decide it's vile, or pathetic, but only when it suits. Again, with some of the vile comments made recently, why have you not pointed it out to that poster? Or is it ok to pick and choose?
It's a pathetic way to get your kicks.
I really disagree here freyasmum.
Broken hearted has made several comments regarding people who go bankrupt - some have been deleted. Why is that I wonder?
Read my post. As I said, I've no right to make assumptions about Broken hearted's debts. I don't know why Broken hearted got into debt. She's dealing with them, and fair play to her.
However, my point was, that equally Broken hearted has no right to make assumptions on those who go bankrupt. People face bankruptcy for various reasons, and to have it whittled down to sob stories, or no pride, or not providing for themselves, or choosing not to pay their bills, when Broken hearted has no knowledge of the circumstances, is not very fair at all.

Hi Looby.
Just a quick question - how would an 8 year DMP affect your credit more than bankruptcy? I am in a similar position - I was on a DMP but couldn't keep up, so by declaring bankruptcy I will be clear much quicker, even with the 6 year blackmark.
As for the moral aspect - sorry, but if it was friends or family I owed, I would feel bad. But it's not. I feel no guilt at having debts to MBNA, Barclays etc written off. The payoff for one Chief Exec that gets sacked from one of these companies for failing could pay my debts many times over.0 -

Work wise (i've always worked in retail) bankruptcy is a big no no.
Morality, I borrowed it, well I have to pay it back. Sorry but that's just how I see it.0 -

Hi Mumof5kids
welcome to the forum. It looks like the mods have moved your post over here to the Bankruptcy & Living With It section where you should get some positive help with your problem.
Pop back later when there should be people around who will pick this up and offer you some advise and answers to your questions0 -
Do you mean it's taboo in your job and you would be looked down on by colleagues and so on, or that it would really affect your employment in a real way?
I understand "I borrowed it, I pay it back". But you haven't borrowed it from a nice friend or family member have you? You have borrowed it from companies who make millions of pounds profit every day from the ordinary Joe like you and I. Companies who, on the back of reposessing the homes of poor people who couldn't keep up their mortgages, make profits that can pay people at the top six figure bonuses for doing a bad job.
I mean, I feel many things about my impending bankruptcy, and I would like to be able to pay my debts. But sympathy for Barclays? Nope, sorry.0 -
IME any cash handling job other than joe blogs putting it in the till requires a credit check. I've done my fair share of sales assistant jobs and am hoping to move up to management level, health permitting.Do you mean it's taboo in your job and you would be looked down on by colleagues and so on, or that it would really affect your employment in a real way?

I don't have sympathy for the money grabbing establishments, I know they can be ruthless, unfair, unreasonable and inflexible. BUT that doesn't dissolve me of all personal responsibility when I can't abide by my share of the agreement I made when I borrowed money from them.0 -
I completely agree. But I think the process of Bankruptcy and problem debt itself forces people to face up to their mistakes. Whereas nothing forces big financial companies to face up to any kind of responsibility.
So in terms of guilt and morality, I really think we as debtors are on the right side of the fence. Personally I see absolutely no need to feel bad about a multibillion pound business, with profits built on the hardship of you and I trying to scrape a crust in a difficult world, losing a few quid.0 -

If this has really gone as far as a bankruptcy petition being served on you, then you need to get some professional advice ASAP.
In the first instance, please contact one of the professional debt advice/counselling agencies to discuss both the threat of bankruptcy and your situation.
The list of agencies is here: Non-profit Debt Counsellors' List (repeated below)
Consumer Credit Counselling Service - Website: CCCS Telephone: 0800 138 1111
National Debtline - Website: National Debtline Telephone: 0808 808 4000
Citizens Advice Bureau - Website: Citizens Advice or visit your local CAB centre (find nearest)
Community Legal Advice - Website: Community Legal Advice Telephone: 0845 345 4 345
They can help you work out what you can or need to do to deal with in the short term, deal with the council if possible, and even get some full legal advice if the process can't be stopped.
This is not a nice experience for anyone, and I hope that you can sort this out in a way that is best for you.

I haven't had any Council Tax summons, but I have found that if you ring the numbers on the letters they will help you. They don't want to take action against you remember, they want their money!
Contact the Council and be honest. Sit down and get your head straight and spend a few hours on it. They might refer you to someone else, you might need to ring a debt charity if you are confused, but you WILL come out with a way forward that isn't as scary as you think, not as scary as if you just ignored it.0
