Funny there are loads of people in the debt free forums managing them fine. Still some people have no pride so they will take the easy option and come up with a sob story.

I've seen a marked increase in the number of bankruptcies we receive in our office - some of them are made because they havent't paid us the requested Council Tax but a lot are also made by other creditors.

When you look at a lot of these accounts several thousands of pounds are being written off only for the Council Tax due after the date of bankruptcy to end up not being paid either. In the end a lot of these people are either heading towards bankruptcy again or committal to prison.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

She chose not to pay an essential bill

It's all very well taking the moral high ground Broken hearted, when you have no idea of others circumstances, but read your own signature:

    Debt start 2006 £18,000 now £13,198 2008 target £10,000 DFD 2009
Clear by April M&S £693.97 f*** Abbey they can wait still hopeful lol
    £10 a day in April £145.05

Loan ends May 1 payments to go:T

Maybe Abbey don't want to wait. Maybe they want their money now and wouldn't like the way you feel about paying them.

Now, I don't know your circumstances. I don't know why you feel the way you do about Abbey, and therefore I have no right to make assumptions.

Equallly, the same applies to you about others who find themselves facing bankruptcy.

Can you explain about the committal to prison please CIS.

I know people have been sent to prison for non payment, but I thought once a bankruptcy order was made, the arrears would be cleared.

Pipkin that is well out of order, and you know it! It's vile, really.

You too, oddjob! You are both baiting and when BH comes back to defend herself, you'll cry 'bully'. Now, just remind me, where exactly did I see that before?

This is supposed to be discussion time, not let's try and wind everyone up time. Everyone has opposing views, and of course they are all entitled to that, but the minute someone says something that you don't agree with they get jumped on?

It's a pathetic way to get your kicks.

hmm seems like it is easy but my concerns would be about the implications for the future and a general sense of loss - it must be quite demoralizing if you think about it though I agree for some that is the only option left
18 months ago, after robbing peter to pay paul and cutting every corner known to man for months, I finally admitted defeat and signed up to a Debt Management Plan (DMP) with the Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS)

The initial advice was that I should go down bankruptcy route as it would take me 8+ years to pay back what I owed and on paper it did look attractive.

I couldn't do that though, not only did I want pay back what I had owed, I realised that being made bankrupt would stay with me a lot lot longer than any DMP and credit problems would.

I still think that anyone with any sense of morality and good old fashioned common sense would only declare bankruptcy if they had no other choice.
