Spent three hours cooking-is it appreciated?

I find Sunday lunch is a bit demoralizing here. I spend a couple of hours in the kitchen, whilst OH and DD's are out in the garden, I lay the dining table all nice, (stupid thing is very highly polished and fancy, bought pre-kids) so requires a tablecloth. Call everyone in.
OH eats his whilst watching the TV over my shoulder, and rushes off outside again calling over his shoulder, "Ill have my pudding later"
2 DD's come in, start eating the yorkshire puds with their fingers, and say "Urgh whats that brown stuff" (beef) and "I dont want carrots, I wanted sweetcorn, and what have you given me those green things for (runner beans) you know I dont like them"
drop gravy all over me clean tablecloth, and roast pots on the carpet under the table,
After telling them off repeatedly I sling them in the garden and feel like crying when I survey the washing up.
This is the family that would prefer chicken nuggets and turkey dinosaurs to hm food.
All my old styling is just not working.0 -

Oh no Sweat Pea, sounds like a nightmare. When I still lived with my mum, I was bored with Sunday roast - only have it once every few weeks now & appreciate it so much more - maybe give that a try, or maybe get the kids involved (I know its more work but may be worth it).My views are irrelevant - censorship is alive & well!0 -

It's minced pork fried with onion till colour changes, tip in a tin of baked beans, 4tbsp ketchup, a teaspoon of chilli powder also. Top with mash mixed with sm tin sweecorn and some grated cheese a bit of milk and some marge. Stick in oven till hot and golden brown. The kids love it!!
Thanks for the replies guys, feeling better now cos tea was delish, OH's portion is cooling and he'll eat it cool (or cold) anyway.
Sounds delicious - and thanks for the recipe
Can minced pork be reheated btw?0 -

My house used to be like that until I insisted the Tv was turned off during our meal and the kids didn't leave the table until we were all done. I also have a rule in my house that if you don't eat all on your plate at on meal, then you get it back at the next. Be grateful for what you have, some people have far less than us, that's what I tell them. So far it seems to work.

I know you're a far better MSE'er than I'll ever hope to be arkonite_babe, but don't those tactics ever backfire? Even though it's worked so far?
I can't think of anything worse than being handed back something to eat that I didn't want in the first place
And Sweet Pea?
Why do you carry on doing it?
I'm not being disrespectful btw ... but why not give them chicken nuggets or whatever they like? If you served them up at every meal I'm sure they'd be begging you for a roast beef dinner. I would be.
I'd be slinging meals, husband and kids on the lawn if they did that to me
And that's the truth ... unfortunately. Hope that doesn't upset you too much - but maybe make you realise a couple of things?
Sorry again if it seems abrupt ....0 -
Sweet Pea are you sure we don't live in the same house?? Or some kind of parallel world like on Star Trek or something. Sounds spookily like our house!!!0

Sweet pea
Could you make some that is still home made but easy to cook and that they will eat?
Maybe chicken in breadcrumbs with new potatoes or home made oven chips with any veg they will all eat.

You could do what Jamie Oliver did on that school dinners programme when he showed the kids what's in chicken nuggets (with the chicken fat, gunge and the food processor) - should make them appreciate real home made food and might even put them off chicken nuggets and turkey twizzlers for life!"The happiest of people don't necessarily have the

So dis-heartening isn't it. My hear goes out to you.
Have you tried them on home made chicken nugegts & turkey shapes (you'd be suprised what you can do with a cookie cutter & a sharp knife;)) Or told tham that if they are good at meal times all week they can have the dreaded chicken nuggets on friday?Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p
