Spent three hours cooking-is it appreciated?

Just spent three hours in the kitchen cooking. Made ranchero pie to take away for the weekend so we have something yummy to eat, also HM pork meatballs in HM tom sauce. OH has just phoned and now won't be in for at least another hour, so basically all my effort is for nothing. It's ever likely people just chuck something in the microwave when they get in. Obviously nothing money saving about this post just feeling a bit sorry for myself and needed a whinge. Please remove if you see fit.

I'm sorry but I can't see it all being a loss, the pie is going away for the weekend and all the other stuff can be heated up. To cheer yourself up next time then video yourself doing the cooking and in the evening show everyone you can get hold of just how busy and inventive you are when they are not at home to see it.....sorted.

Wow! That sounds lovely. Don't worry, we appreciate your efforts, and like Elvis said, it's not wasted xAnna :beer:0

Slow-cookers are great when this happens. Stuff is still good if left for another 2 hrs or more.
I know just what you mean. I made a Ol'Style Apple Crumble the other night with a load of free apples. Just adding the crumble topping when Mrs MATH comes home with a bag of store-bought doughnuts:rolleyes: Crumble has gone in the freezer tho so it will do another time.
Eat your while it is at it's best and late commers will just have to eat it dried out and re-heated.Life's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0 -
What's Rancheros Pie? Anyway the meatballs sounds good, can I come round and eat it whilst making lots of appreciative comments."The happiest of people don't necessarily have the

My problem is the other way round
I HAVE to have to tea on the table at 5pm. Mr TM would positively waste away if he wasn't fed at that time (well, that's what he would have me believe) and my after-school charges need to eat so they can go home with a full tum
Thus, I'm often to be found scurrying around my kitchen (which is the most badly designed in Christendom) trying to make a "proper" tea, with steamed veggies etc and also a pud, which seems to be required by lots of hungry boys. Then it's a blur of cutlery and it's all goneI know this is a compliment in itself and everyone always says thankyou, but by 5.30 I'm left sitting at an empty dining table with just the odd bit of discarded lettuce for company
And I'm glad to see that MATH succumbed to the call of the boot sale slow cooker. What would he have done in the depths of winter without the welcoming aromas of braising beef or hams done in apple juice, especially as the last little Mathlet has gone off to school and Mrs MATH is around more0 -
What's Rancheros Pie?
It's minced pork fried with onion till colour changes, tip in a tin of baked beans, 4tbsp ketchup, a teaspoon of chilli powder also. Top with mash mixed with sm tin sweecorn and some grated cheese a bit of milk and some marge. Stick in oven till hot and golden brown. The kids love it!!
Thanks for the replies guys, feeling better now cos tea was delish, OH's portion is cooling and he'll eat it cool (or cold) anyway.0 -

To some extent I know what you mean. I often spend a long time cooking (most days, in fact), and DH wolfs it down. I'm sure he doesn't even taste it half the time! My only sadness, though, comes from me knowing he never experiences the same enjoyment from food that I do - and this is how I think of it. I *love* good, homemade food, it's one of my greatest pleasures in this simple life, so I don't mind spending hours making a good meal, because in a lot of ways, I'm doing it for myself.
I don't really mind if no one else appreciates it (though I know DH does, really, because he compliments me genuinely and often) because it makes me happy.
So, sit down, enjoy that delicious meal you've prepared, and enjoy every single mouthful.Sealed Pot Challenge 5 - #1742 :j0
