Return my PSP to Argos

I have noticed my PSP seems to have a lot of dust INSIDE the screen, it is not something you would notice unless you held it up to a strong light. Also, the battery is stuck and won't come out (I need to get it out to find out the serial!)

Obviously I am wanting to return this but will Argos claim I got the dust and marks there? I have owned this since yesterday, and used the cleaning cloth less than a handful of times to get rid of some packaging material marks and then the odd bit of dust when playing. Obviously it may be hard for Argos to see the dust and therefore the problem.

Also I got a pack of games with the console for a special offer price. Would I need to return these too? One of the games has been used as I was playing it until I noticed the dust!

I would be very happy with an exchange but I have checked and the stores close to me are out of stock now. On the Argos website home delivery is available however within 2 days. Could Argos arrange for one to be delivered to store?

I don't see how they can say you got the dust & marks there. Take it into the store and speak with the manager I'm sure they will be okay about it as you've only had it such a short while.
They have a 16 day return policy if they have no more in stock surely you can have your money back and buy else where.

Excluded from the 16 day policy, but this is irrelevant as it would be classed as faulty/damaged

I could get my money back but I know at Argos I can easily get an exchange/refund without much hassle.

I reckon you shouldnt have any problem taking it back. dust inside lcd screens is common on poorly sealed screens and is nothing you have done, they have to fix it. usually by replacing the screen

(I have the same problem on my phone its only really noticable when the screen is off)

I hope this isnt a feature on all the PSP's

I have been informed on another forum somebody tried to return their PSP to Argos and they sent him packing with a number for Sony and told him to contact Sony!!!

Surely this is against the law? He purchased the item less than 24 hours ago, and Argos clearly state that THEY will offer an exchange, repair or refund within 30 days

Yes it is against the law - your contract of purchase is with the retailer and if it is faulty they should exchange it.

Most Argos stores should be good about this kind of thing though.

I have a Japanese PSP which I picked up at the start of the year even though mine had no problems their was loads or reports that PSP's had dust and marks under the screen and the dredded dead pixels.

I would stick to a games retailer at least they will be aware of problems and should offer you a direct replacement or the only other way is through the Sony helpline who give you something like 30 days to return a faulty unit for a new unit.

In some shops it's a sad fact that once they have sold you something and it's faulty they are not @rsedand you have problems getting a replacement like when I had a problem with a bike from toys r us so i wont ever go there again

Your rights are any faulty equipment can be returned within a reasonable time
frame i.e usually within 14days Dont let argos fob you off.

I bought a phone from Phones 4 U, and after 8days it was busted so I took it
back to them and said refund please, they said sorry its a PAYG phone on Vodafone
network, we dont give refunds (t*****s I thought.

So I phoned Vodafone and they said that was a load of lies so they said send
the phone to vodafone and they would reinburse me, they did with a £20 gesture.

And now Phonee 4 u, have scrapped that policy of no refunds (maybe down to me)

So it goes to show you do have rights and dont be bullied, take it back.

    RESULT!!!

Had to catch a bus to the next local store (Of which had my reserved PSP from last night ;)). Walked straight to the customer line and the woman was very helpful, even pointing out the fact there was no chance of me getting one. She then said "Great Idea" when I presented the reservation number :D). Without even checking the contents of the box (If I had been dishonest I could have replaced the PSP with a brick!...But I'm not that kind of person), I was given a exchange slip and went over to the collection counter. Minutes ticked by and I even saw one employee with a full trolley of returned goods. After a while I thought "I bet they've sold the reservation!" and lost hope. Then I saw another employee (Or her little girl) open a PSP box and put in it a PSP console. They then brought this box down to me, stuck it in a bag and off I went.

I was not wasting a bus journey, so I found a quiet place to inspect the console they had given me (Public Toilets!) and noticed on the stock slip it said 'Display Model'. I opened the box and...yep, it was the display model! Complete with streaks across the screen, fingerprint marks, and even what looked like scratches. I finished my little toilet trip and went straight back to Argos, to find somebody else (A young female employee) serving. I explained that I exchanged my PSP and received the display model, and she SHRUGGED HER SHOULDERS as to say "Yea and?". She then gave the console a fierce rubbing with a corner of her shirt and then goes "So you want a refund" and eventually she took my card and processed the refund, every receipt and slip she gave me in a angry fashion. I did say "Thank You" when I was walking away and she didn't say a thing!

I will be complaining to Argos 110% over this matter, she should not treat customers in such a way. At no point did the store inform me the console had been on display.

But I guess there is a bright side to all this...I still have Lumines and Snooker from when I purchased the bundle at £205...eBay calls!

It is illegal for a retailer to display a sign saying "No Refunds". If they do display one it has no legal validity as the law provides you with certain statuatory rights. This even applies to 'sold as seen' goods.
