  • OH is applying for anything he can without qualifications, of course. He's with an agency, but no luck with them yet.

Are in real trouble now though as our bank balance is £0. I got paid on the 22nd and Natwest have taken our direct debits already, when they're due on Monday, i think this is standard though as our statement online has the date of them being paid out of the 28th, but the funds are already gone.

So no food or petrol for this week and tv licence due on the 1st, so looks promising doesn't it. Can't sell on ebay yet as owe ebay fees and cannot afford to pay them, obvioulsy.

    I currently work

    1. 32.5 hrs in a school as a teaching assistant

    2. 5 hrs in the same school as a curriculm support assistant (making rescources, photo copying, laminating, all odd jobs really)

    3. 1 day a wk per school holidays helping a Mum look after her 2 disabled children (yet to start due to CRB not back in time for Easter holidays, so will get 1 day during half term and 6 during the summer holidays)

    4. Applying for a 20 hour post to look after disabled children while parents have a day/evening out.

Do you not have to be CRB checked for the other jobs?

I was just wondering if you could do babysitting in the evenings. If school has a noticeboard then maybe you could put an advertisement on it. I'm sure parents would be happy to leave their children in the care of someone they know from school and someone they can trust.

There's also an agency that deals with babysitting for the likes of childminders and nursery workers who want to do a bit of extra work. I'm not sure off the top of my head what it's called - it could just be as simple as "sitters". I'll see if I can find that for you.

Apparently people pay £20+ an evening for a babysitter. More if it goes past midnight.

Edited to add - I was right, it IS just sitters

Just because your neighbour walks dogs too doesn't mean you or your OH can't... Advertise the services in Tesco, local postoffice etc and I bet you will get takers... even better if you are willing to have a dog or 2 in your house...
Just to give you an idea I pay £7.50 per 45 minute walk and for my area I'm getting a good price! And more and more people want their precious pooches to be looked after all day and preferably to play with other pooches. It might be worth looking at?

  • Job #3 was a yes/no to CRB. The family got granted 1 extra day per wk for help during school holidays, the current lady who helps 2 days, didn't want the extra day, so i rang up about it and got it. The mother wanted me to be CRB checked, the social worker was hoping she wouldn't want me doing as of course i already have one to work in a school and it would of saved the hassle, but she wanted one doing.

That mean't i missed working in the Easter holidays, it came back the week school went back, which is typical.

Job #4, just sent off application for, so fingers crossed.

But a very big thank you for the link, im going to have a nosey through the site in a sec. My school doesn't have a noticeboard as such, as our parents wait outside for our children and our 'door duty' staff bring the children to the doors, we just do it that way so we aren't bombarded with parents as most want to 'chat' and we just dont have the time. But in saying that, over time, building up relationships with parents, i could always mention in coversation that im available to look after their children if they need it.

Unfortunately as my next door neighbour does walk dogs, it does mean we can't, as we live in a village and she has an excellent client base. She also looks after them during the day, normally has about 6/7 at a time, plus her own dogs. She has really built her business up and everyone knows her and does fund raising for her etc. Now is she were to move.....hmmmmmm

  • CRB'S are a necessary pain unfortunately. The company must be making a mint off everyone.
I dont know what else to suggest above and beyond what you are doing. Did have one thought, as you live in a village, does anyone want shopping doing for them or even them taking shopping?
Is car booting out? Have you sold everything on e bay, anything left over for one?

Oooh, that's a good one, especially with GCSE season being upon us!
  • Shopping, i guess could be an option. Though the bus service seems to be pretty good and free for the pensiors, so i bet they pop into town with friends etc.

Don't have much to be any worth doing a car boot. Do have a hoover and outdoor setting to put on ebay, but i owe ebay fees and it wont let me sell my items until i have paid the fees, its £15 and i have £0 in my bank.

Free bingo is a great idea and so is exam invigilating, except my school doesn't have any exams, i work in a special needs school.

Is it possible for you to assist the children on the buses/taxis to school? I work in a special needs school and most of the assistants do this both morning and afternoon.

If your dog walking neighbour is so busy maybe she could do with a bit of help?

As for the CRB, I know our council says that you have to have a separate one for every organisation you work with, even if it's just different departments within the council, so it could be red tape why you need another one for the disabled girl.

Could you take in ironing or something like that?
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.
