  • Another great idea prudent, but out of my hands. We have 'private' bus companies, like sprays etc that supply own staff. We have 1 school bus that picks up the local students and i used to do this and did for 2 years. I did the afternoon one for a hr, i was paid term time only and only when i did the job, was not on a contract for it. (when doing this, i didnt have the extra 5 hours at job #2 mentioned above)

BUT, i was only on a 25 hour contract then, so it bumped me up to 30 hours a week. I was then successful getting a full time contract and they didn't want me to be the school bus escort as well as that mean't me coming out of class at 3pm and leaving the class short staffed (we finish at 3:45pm). When i was on my 25 hr contact, it didn't matter as i finished my teacher assistant job at 3pm anyway.

They now have another teacher assistant doing the afternoons as she is part time and hence finishes her teacher assistant job at 3pm.

However, i do the school run am and pm if anyone is off sick etc. Im always contacted 1st as not many staff like doing it.

Sorry again to be saying great idea, but can't. I really really do appreciate peoples ideas and i have registered on the sitter website, just waiting for somone to contact me to be interviewed.

I personally couldn't help her, well not during the week, however my OH could.

I definately could take in ironing. However with working 37.5 hrs a week, 1 day a wk in the school holidays and possibly a 20 hour job i have just applied for (i think its per mth, not a week), taking me to 42.5 hrs a week. Id rather take the ironing on for the weekends/holidays. Even better, id rather get my OH to be taking on stuff like this, though he can't iron to save his life.

  • Thanks

Have just shocked my OH by suggesting its a good reason to move to Australia (my country). I have even done the online assessment to see if he'd get a visa and he'd get one due to his qualification (mechanic) or a sponsored visa for us to be married within 9 mths living in Australia. (we're engaged and have been for 2 yrs).

But i had no response from him, i think i really really shocked him as he's never been to Australia before, i went back last year for my sisters wedding, but he couldn't get time off.

  • Seems a good idea, at least you get the weather there.
Would you have to give a bond for that?or are you ok with already being an Australian?

I've just had another thought. There's local elections coming up soon. I remember my friend (quite a few years ago) took a day's holiday from work and worked in the polling station - checking people's cards etc against the list of voters for the area.

I've no idea how much she got paid, nor indeed how she went about applying for the work, but that might be something both you and your OH could tackle. It's only one day - albeit a long one!

Hope you're managing to see some light at the end of the tunnel now.
  • Thats a fab idea, def something OH could do i. I unfortunately cannot as i work in a school so cannot take a days holiday and if i called in sick and worked some where else, id be in big trouble.

I am managing to work a 42.5 hr week this week though at my school. I am doing the school bus escort am/pm as most of the school is at center parcs this week and that includes the TA who normally does this job, so i was asked to fill in. So i've got an extra 5 hrs and have managed to stop paying into my private pension for the time being. So that saves me £76 a mth.

Shame all this wont be until pay day on May 22nd, but oh well.

It would be ok for you to do if your school was being used as a polling station :D:rolleyes:

It's a shame that although you're finding bits of extra work (which is great news for you of course) you don't actually get the money for it for a few weeks.

I assume if your OH is receiving JSA then he's at home all day? And you obviously have a computer and internet access, otherwise you wouldn't be posting here lol. Again, this won't bring in any money quickly, and it won't bring in a huge amount, but to coin a phrase "every little helps" . . . . what about if your OH spent a couple of hours a day doing the free clicks on some of the cashback sites. It does take a long time, and it is mind numbingly boring, but there is free money to be made.

I hope posting this link is allowed (and I apologise profusely if it isn't), but I followed this woman's routines when I was doing the daily clicks. I don't know how up to date her site is now, as it was some time ago that I did it, but it might be of some use to you. Especially if you/your OH can get others to sign up using your referrals.
