Chatterbox 2 line deals?

Watcha, I'm looking around for a couple of new phones (for me and my wife, to replace deals we set up last year) and came across some strange offers on www.chatterbox.com.

The one I'm looking at gives a free Siemens d500, 1000 Xnet minutes & 200 texts per month. The only odd thing is you have to take out 2 x £20 a month lines, 1 line is heavily subsidised, the other is completely subsidised... The maths do work out at £2.99 per month for 18 months.

I've a couple of questions,

Do they make their money from refusing cashbacks \ hoping people miss the deadlines?

Do I get 2 sims (if so I can give one to the wife, she's happy with her current phone)?

Any other thoughts about this offer?

E.M.

  • When I was claiming my cashback with Chatterbox.com earlier this year, it took 12 weeks, many emails, faxes (they didn't have a contact number at the time), and some threats to sort out.

I had two cash back deals with Chatterbox.com last year. I sent off copies of all my bills, per the instructions, by special delivery. 3 days later £450 credited direct to my bank account. The special delivery cost me £4.50.

  • Poppy, was that how much you were expecting?

To my eyes it looks like the only way they can run these deals it to have the monthly cost V high and hope people forget \ miss the cashback?

Yes I had two lines. Both on Orange 100xnet 50 text per month. Two Nokia 3100. I paid line rental of £20 per month on each line. Total outlay for the year £480. Cash back at month 7 (I think) was £450.

Make sure it's only a 12 month tie in - as some tie you in for 18 months. Give notice at month 11 to Orange (or whoever) so you are free to get a new contract at the end of month 12.

I bought my last two phones in May from www.mobileshop.com

    Both on 02

    - Motorolla V220 100xnet 100 text per month pay £25pm upfront to 02 and claim cash back of £150 at month 6 and month 12. Total cost per year £0

    - Sony Ericsson T630 same terms as above.

These have both finished now but the offers change every month so they might reappear.

here are the links (non referreral).
