Samsung D900 not charging

Hi - my daughter's Samsung D900 phone is not charging via the USB cable. She lost the mains charger so I bought a compatible one from Ebay but it's not charging via this either. I think the phone's connector port may be damaged even though it looks OK. The phone is out of warranty but I took it to the Orange Shop today to see if it did charge via their mains charger but they didn't have one to try it out.

They suggested another phone shop and the guy there actually took out the battery to charge it with a "quick charger" and asked me to come back in 10 minutes. Unfortunately, I was running out of time so had to leave it but it's just occurred to me that this might be another way to charge the battery.

Sorry if I'm being a bit thick here but what are these chargers called and can I buy one from Ebay etc.?
