Some councils have bye laws forbidding the feeding of gulls or pigeons but as far as Im aware thats feeding them in public spaces. Bird tables in your garden can hardly be supervised to keep the gulls off so just carry on.

One thing you might like to think of though is feeding birds from bird tables encourages rats. In my last house we had a huge problem with rats which was partly solved by all of us whose gardens backed on to each other agreed not to feed the birds. Now I will only put seed hangers out in the parks and woods
  • Where I live they don't wait to be fed they just come and take it from you scares the life out of people!!!!

Murderers, rapists and peadophiles can get really nasty aswell, but dont worry about them... ohhh nooo!! Waste police, court and jail time in putting a lady in prison.

What is this country coming to?

You're correct but to be fair her back garden was knee high in rotting food in places, the stench was said to be unbearable and rats were causing chaos for neighbours. At times there were estimated to be between 1000 & 2000 birds 'hanging around' with their excrement corroding anything in its way..... i found it quite funny but living next door must have been hell !:D.... Trafalgar Square wasn't even close !

Pigeons and gulls are fairly easy to get rid off once your eye is in.

It may take a few weeks and a few cats to get your eye in but once your aim is true, easy.

And you win lots at the fair as well
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical

Hanging feeders are much better for wildlife preservation as only small birds can use them, and they are the ones that are endangered. Look up the RSPB for proper advice on wildlife preservation.

Pigeons and seagulls are not endangered - they are absolute pests. Seagulls are vicious and will attack you if they even think you have food. They are certainly not creatures you want anywhere near your home. You wouldn't encourage vicious dogs into your garden that can roam into your neighbours' gardens, so why encourage seagulls that can be equally nasty?

My neighbours front lawn is alongside my drive. She often throws stale bread out onto the grass for the birds, which they eat and then poo all over my car
Here I go again on my own....

They are causing havoc with our dustbins at the moment. We dont have wheelie bins in our town and have to put our rubbish out in bags on collection day (they wont collect from bins). Our collection is at about 7.15am so we all tend to put the bags out the night before but now the mornings are lighter the gulls have emptied them all before the lorry gets here and the streets are a mess. Any advice on keeping them away (other than having to get up early!)?

Dont your bins have lids? Place a heavy brick or stone on the lid.
