MONEY MORAL DILEMMA. Would you ask for the sponsorship money back?

No, the donation money stays but I would make the friend match my donation out of his future drinking money and make sure he participates in and completes any future event.0
-
No, but I'd ask why I wasn't invited to go out with them the night before.0

I'm collecting money for Cancer Research right now and running in an event in July. If, for any reason, I can't do the run I shall still send the money off to the charity - they won't lose out. Feeling tired halfway round isn't a crime - I probably will but hope I'll be able to complete it. After all mine's only 3 miles and not a marathon but, if the friend has gone out the night before that's out of order and deserves a good slating but why should the charity lose out because of this? You either want to give to charity or not, sponsoring a friend is only the motivation to do it. Don't let the charity suffer because your friend is a loser.0
-
No - let the charity keep it. Although there was a slightly fraudulent aspect to its acquisition, it went to a worthy cause.
Thriftiness shouldn't preclude generosity.0 -
I would request the full amount back from the so-called friend.
And actually contribute to the charity myself.
I am not doing it to get credit for myself, but the fact that (s)he shouldn't get credit (i.e. how much they have raised) for something that they didn't do. :mad:0 -
With regards to the MMD, I would not make the charity suffer because I had a friend who was a bit lazy - what I would do is make them make another donation to the charity, and I'd probably not sponsor that person again........that doesn't mean I wouldn't give to charity directly myself mind you!
As for all the posts RE: CR being largely useless, animals being exploited etc etc, well frankly I'm disgusted with you all.
I'd present facts to show just how wrong you are, but what's the point? Other scientists have already presented these facts to you, and clearly you don't want to listen. Shame on you
I speak as someone who not only works in Clinical Trials, but has a home office licence. I've also seen far too much first hand about the horrific effects of diseases like cancer, strokes, MS etc.
As much as I care about animals, do you (a) think scientists want to mistreat any animals or (b) think that this means we should be putting humans through this and often worse suffering?
Sorry to take this O/T, but some people's views on here have deeply saddened me........I just don't see how you can back up what you're saying........

I wouldnt throw my money away to Cancer research in the first place
they admitted last year that they have got no further forward and that 99% of their research is a waste of time
donating to cancer research means you give to very highly paid scientists to test on animals - often without care of pain killers
they do this massively, cats, dogs, rabbits, primates etc
despite billions being ploughed into CA and similar firms there are more ppl dying of cancer than ever before
80% of US Drs claimed they would not take current cancer cures as the treatment kills more ppl than the cancer does
for alternative research groups check out the EMP or dr hadwen trust
sorry to be negative but it annoys me when i see money wasted on CA etc and ppl dying when other methods are far better -

I'm yet to meet a highly paid scientist...... £25,000 for 45+ hours per week isn't what I would considered rolling in it. And yes the research doesn't always yield the next treatment for cancer/parkinsons disease/diabetes etc, but it does increase understanding which will hopefully lead to advances in the future. Some work on animals in necessary, but it's always carried out in a humane way according to very strict guidelines.
As for the moral dilemma, I won't be happy with my friend as they didn't take things seriously, but the money has gone to a good cause so I won't ask for the money back. I'd just make sure I asked them for sponsorship the next time I did a charity eventMortgage-free wannabe 2025 £571/30000 -
Yawn... So a few pompous 'scientists' have chimed in with their propaganda...
If the CR work is so important why do they rely on the guilt and stupidity of the public to line begging bowls?
Surely the government would be only to pleased to fund all this stuff no matter what the cost right? LOL!0 -
Yes, I would ask for the money back and then donate the money myself or to another participant. It's not the issue of not finishing. Going out and getting !!!!ed up the night before is the issue.
Why should they get credit for raising a sum of money if they really didn't care enough to take it seriously when others did and completed the challenge or only got some of the way after giving it their best?0 -
