You don't state a budget but if you don't mind buying online amazon have some. Order total £15 or more for "free" delivery. http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss_w_h_/202-1046105-0852614?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=laptop+bags&x=16&y=15
A Google or similar search should realise many more though0 -
Thanks I'll have a look.somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0

We bought one for my son in pc world that is like a messenger bag style.0 -
I have the Targus one for my HP laptop, its ok but being a "messenger" style one its not the best.
I am still looking for a better one.0 -
Crumpler bags are good, high quality and funky, on Amazon just search for Crumpler 17:
A few from the several pages returned:
Crumpler The Gimp 17W" Silver
Crumpler The Gimp 17W" Black
Crumpler TBXL-001 Laptop Bag (Dull Black/Charcoal) 15"-17"
Crumpler TBXL-003 Laptop Bag (Black Olive/Golden Orange) 15"-17"
Crumpler US website for specs and details is here.

I'd suggest the Crumpler too - use them for my laptop, camcorder and digital camera - very rugged, waterproof and useful compartments. you are paying slightly more but i look on the extra as an insurance policy against having my laptop squashed. you can probably find them in John Lewis department stores. Targus are ok for the 'business' look and initially did the job but had one fall apart on me - that was a low-end one though.
the gadget show recently did a top 5 bags here
http://gadgetshow.five.tv/jsp/5gsmain.jsp?lnk=401&featureid=709&show=s8e3§ion=Features
which the presenter did some rigerous testing (waterproof, jumping on it, throwing) on about 50 to narrow down to 5.

If you're looking for a cheapo bag, Tesco Direct do a functional (but boring) Techair Adelphi for £11.97.

My missus got one for her 17" widescreen.0 -
On the amazon listings, I have the first one that's listed. I got it from Argos for a similar price.
Its a pretty good bag, lots of compartments and its sturdy. Its pretty well padded; so much so I chucked my laptop onto a bus (lots of stuff travelling back to uni) and it came out unscathed (I wasn't really thinking at the time, I probably won't do it again!).
Its quite large, but then if you have a 17" widescreen it needs to be big I guess. I do worry it looks obviously like a laptop bag when wandering around Manchester though so I really want to get a laptop back pack but most of them are either horrible or ridiculously expensive!0 -
Thanks for all the replies - there's lots of choice here. I'll get my son (it's his laptop) to have a look. I like the Gadget Show selection but they are expensive (and mainly not for 17").
We're still looking if anyone has other suggestions. The issue seems to be size versus padding, with a choice of traditional laptop bags (which look rather obviously laptop) or more trendy backpacks or sleeves.somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0 -
Probably won't be good for your son but woolworths are doing a 'smartprice' type laptop bag for 5.99, if like me anyone wont really be taking the laptop out of the house, and only need a bag to keep it from scratching etc, then this could be the one.
it's basic but does the job.0
