I agree that the little ones love bubbles, at the nursery where I work they are the childrens favourite prizes (they get to choose) and I bought some in poundland yesterday you get 9 tubs in one package so only 11p each. Good luck with everything, let us know what you decide to do.

Just make sure they dont open them until they get home.... other wise you'll have a hall full of screaming kids with stinging eyes ....

    Good Luck x

Could you have a bouncy castle in the hall? Bouncy castles can be £££ but some aren't.

Yes, we hire ours indoors as well as out, as long as the ceiling is high enough!
Castles are around the 50 to 60 pound mark.

Hi In our Nursey class we had a teddy bears picnic party indoors. We asked each child to bring in their fav teddy. We ordered plain bear sized t shirts from USA website http://adollysworld.com/teddy_bear_shirts.html (as worked out £1 per t shirt incl postage) and got the children to decorate them with fabric pens for their bear. We also had some card cut into teddy sized crowns and pirate hats for the children to decorate. We then played games (child and bear as partners) using the cd as music, such as musical chairs, pass the parcel, teddy bear bumps, teddy bear paw prints (card cut into pawprints-each child must run to this when the music stops, any child not on a paw print is out, remove a paw print each time) and dancing competitions. The prizes were cheap bubbles from the poundshop and haribo packet sweets. We then had plastic gingham table cloths (from Poundland) on the floor and the children and teddies had a picnic. Sealed single use drink cartons with a straw in them are great for this picnic eg. calipso 10p each cups. You can then give them the baloons off the wall to play with after the cake and happy birthday singing. I think lucky bags are great for that age group and you can buy them from any wholesalers such as bookers, costco, makro etc for about £8 for a box of 30ish. Woolies sometimes do offers such as buy one get one free too.

Teddy Bears Picnic - what a great idea!!!

We bought single carton squash drinks for my son's 4th b'day party and they were great - with a bouncy castle the kids drank loads. We got ours from Asda, Asda own brand 'Great Stuff Kids Cool Cups'. You get 24 drink cups (with straws) for £1.99.

I invited all of my son's nursery for his 4th birthday party. We have recently moved to this area so it was good to get to know some of the other mums etc. Luckily we have our own bouncy castle co so we only had to pay for the hall hire and food.

We had some balls, hopscotch game and colouring sheets and crayons etc but tbh they were hardly used. The children only wanted to go on the castles. We had a game of pass the parcel but abandoned all the other games as they weren't interested and just wanted to run around!

We made up jugs of weak juice and I got some cups with lids that have the hole for a straw. It worked out cheaper than buying the ready made stuff. I think we paid about £40 for the hall, food and party bags so not bad for a party with 30 kids.

  • i did it for my son's 5th party because he'd gone to school for the final term and didn't know anybody and i thought inviting the whole class would make people talk to him in the playground :o

they all just wanted space to run around, and a bouncy castle.

a bubble machine might be worth buying. the ELC sell them, and large tubs of bubble mix but it can probably be found cheaper elsewhere. we got our bubble machine from tesco but i haven't seen any yet this year. they could have a bubble disco :D

i'm sure parents would like you giving a book instead of a bag of artificial-coloured sweets and plastic stuff. the book people sell packs of ten books for ten pounds or less. there are some sticker books on there at the moment.

I love the idea of a craft afternoon and the T Shirt decorating is excellent, these could go in party bags. If you have a friend who is good at craft you could have 2 activities like t/shirts and also they could paint plantpots. We have done this and then if you glue a circle of card in the bottom they can be used for keeping treasures in. At the moment you can pick them up cheap. If you have some matchpots of paint or acrylic paint they work well and the clay absorbs the moisture so they dry quickly. You could also have glitter etc to sprinkle on them.
Why not check out Primark for T/shirts or Asda they do good price on them. I would buy a size too big as they can then have a slightly bigger to work on and they can be worn as night shirts. Include instructions on how to "set" the fabric paints to the parents so the designs aren't washed off.

First one very grown up but you get the idea. Hope these help.

  • I can see how good the crafty stuff sounds but if you are having the whole class I think it could be chaos!! I would only do the crafty type thing with less children personally but its up to you. I would stick to either a bouncy castle or clown or to keep costs down I would have a bubble machine as someone suggested, party music and some balloons around the hall and let them run wild.
