Thanks

What operating system are you running? You have to be careful as some regcleaners take out stuff that they shouldn't, Vista being the main victim. Make sure that they RegCleaner is compatable with your OS.0 -
Registry cleaners are a complete waste of time as they usually do more harm than good, If I were you I would deffo up your RAM if its 256mb?
Not if you use the right one, where registry cleaners usually go wrong is clearing out entries for empty directories, these reg entries need to be there as these are often output directories for such things as log files or pdf files etc....
CleanMyPC Regcleaner gives you the option to clear these out or not and I find it to be the best one by far.0 -
I'd never recommend any program to a user who doesn't understand exactly what it is doing and subsequently how to undo what it does if it doesn't work as intended.0

Hi
thanks for all that.
I am on Xp home and have used cccleaner.
What will uping my ram do? and is it hard to do?
Thanks0 -
As mentioned here, reg cleaners are often a waste of time. Although CCleaner does do some useful things, and it's free

Upgrading your ram should make some difference, as 256MB really isn't much. Doubling this shouldn't cost much at all, and should be easy enough to fit if you don't mind opening up your PC.0 -
www.crucial.com/uk run the scanner, and see the guides, it just clips in, all you need is a screwdriver. Another 256 meg will make your pc far less sluggish.
As for reg cleaners, I am also in the waste of time camp. Clearing out 0.01% of all your registry entries ain't gonna speed things up, and could screw things up.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Regcure is malware! Use CCleaner as other poster's have suggested.Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0

If you're going to the bother of upping your RAM, go for as much as your motherboard/OS can take...use crucial's system scanner, note what type you need and check out mymemory.co.uk via quidco..you could get 1Gb for less than £20 and by christ you'll see the difference in performance

In my humble opinion, of course
......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple
