    Hi

I have literally just been on the Next website and stupidly did not realise when registering that it was requesting a credit account - I thought it was like a normal website - argh!

All I did was fill out the first page of the registration, where I had to provide name, address, DOB and email address. Then it came up with a message saying I could not continue with registration online, it had to be done by post or on the phone.

Does this mean they will have run a credit check? I have an excellent credit rating, and I am trying to keep it that way as I want to buy a house next year! If anyone can help and let me know if it is likely they have run a check, that would be great.

    Thanks!

Did you agree to the T&C,by ticking the box?

"To open an Account for you, we will make searches about you at credit reference agencies who will supply us with credit information, as well as information from the Electoral Register. The agencies will record details of the search, whether or not credit is granted. We may use credit scoring methods to assess your application and to verify your identity."

    Hi

    Unfortunately I did - I know I should have read them. :(

However I was wondering if the fact that I immediately got a message saying I couldn't carry out the rest of the registration online and had to do it by post or on the phone meant that they couldn't carry out the searches?

My wife was approached to enter that "Win a Car" competition, store staff say "you won't be charged for directory". I can't believe after retailers getting punished for misselling payment protection insurance, it seems next are doing something similar in getting you to open a "store card" type account.
I couldn't believe their credit search appeared on both our credit files (obviously we're linked financially) but it's SO annoying that they aren't clearer about this, recently ordered post office home phone and they were "VERY" clear about the fact they did a credit search, however kindly it was one that equifax don't think will effect our score.

Luckily we both only appear to have 1 credit search (bloody next directory) in the past 6 months so hopefully that won't have too much of an impact on our chances of applying for a new credit card. If the next directory search does I will be CRACKING up at their customer service department.
From what i've heard Next Store staff get a serious amount of incentive to sign people up to this.

If they have done a credit search without your permission, you can request credit expert/experian or who ever you are using to put a note of correction on your credit file, while they contact the companies to wip it off your credit file :D I did it when freemans and vodafone credit searched me without my perimission, Vodafone did it for a free PAG sim! lol

Now this is an interesting coinsidence... I recieved a catalogue today, never asked for one, never entered a competition for a car, BUT did return a dress to our local shop about a month ago, as it did not fit my daughter.

In order to get the refund I was asked to fill my name and address on a reciept print out that they retained, im assuming they then used the info I supplied and decided to send a catalogue! VERY sneeky.

VERY sneaky indeed! One would assume you have been subject to a credit check too however if they have thats totally out of order unless of course their returns terms and conditions have some details on this.

I'm currently in the middle of a complaint with Next Directory, they set up an account in my name and I certainly didn't set it up. At first I thought perhaps I had without knowing, but they confirmed it was set up in a store somewhere I've never been, so I've asked for it to be investigated.

They're not good at keeping people informed though.

I received a Next directory a few months ago, it was my address but someone elses name. Don't know if any credit checks were run, I just rang them up and they said they were deleting the account and I could keep the directory.
