WARNING: Vodafone will charge even if phone switched off abroad
If you travel overseas and don't intend to use your mobile NEVER SWITCH IT ON.
If you do, your sim card will be registered with the overseas operator. Even if you then switch it off and keep it off everafter, Vodafone WILL CHARGE YOU A ROAMING FEE FOR EVERY CALL DIALED TO YOUR NUMBER EVEN THOUGH NEVER CONNECTED.
This can last for days until you arrive back and switch on your phone to register it back on to the UK network.
Vodafone are literally skimming millions of pounds off people doing this.
At first I couldn't understand why my credit kept running out whenever I went abroard even though my phone is off all the time.
When I complained, they said it received all these calls. Pretty impossible since I know it was off.
I am making a formal complaint to OFCOM.
I suggest you check your own phone bills very carefully if you have recently been abroad.

All are the same - it's not just voda.
You need to also switch off voicemail if you don't want to pay for roaming when abroad, as all messages to voicemail get charged too.0 -
Is this the same for payg and monthly payers?? I thought the charge was only on collecting the voicemail?0
-
Nope you pay if someone calls you, and that includes calling your voicemail. Coz the network has to route the call from abroad. So if you pick up the voicemail you then pay again, its expensive work being abroad
Wondering how to have a life & not rack up more debts...0
