    Odds of being successful?!

Possibly nil, but I do agree with other posters that this seems excessively harsh.

forgive my blondeness, but why can't you board the plane for failing to supply the information prior, but you can board the same plane if you pay another £220+ for a new ticket, even though you still haven't supplied the info in advance...?

Capitalism or ryanair's christmas bonus all in the bag one one flight.

Quite a nifty little trick; I hope you get your money back OP; and the others that flew with you...

Basically RyanAir is just a money making organisation.

You may, if you are lucky get a cheap flight at the advertised price (especially now they have been taken to task over THEIR misleading bordering on the fraudulent ads). You will pay for everything else apart from the seat including luggage, food, drink, checking-in in person, being alive, breating THEIR air, using a Credit/Debit Card unless you bank with some obscure financial institution, etc, etc.

They do offer cheap flights no question, but customer care, common sense, being sensible and most other qualities you would expect from any decent organisation delivering a service or product to a consumer, forget it.

BTW did you see Watchdog last night (21/04/08) where RyanAir even charge you top dollar to redeem their own Gift Vouchers. Basically they are a money grabbing organisation who do not give a toss about anyone or anything including their own staff - do they still have to buy their own uniforms?

and i hope you get it back too.

my point clearly shows that having the info earlier wasn't a problem, as they were quite open to taking it at check-in, so long as you paid again!

Ryanair are well known for sailing close to the wind legally. I think this issue should be referred to Trading Standards. They might be able to offer some help here.

I know that it makes mention of this in Ryanairs' terms and conditions, however, I still believe that the charges imposed and the methodolology used would perhaps not stand up to a test of 'reasonableness' in a court. This is the sort of extortionate charging that the banks got away with for years on end, yet at the moment the banks are being hauled through the courts for it. Ryanair are no strangers to being taken to task for their sharp practise. I think that the authorities are coming to the end of their tether with this company, and not before time.
  • quite frankly they don't give a hoot about negative publicity .....unfortunately this year i was unable to get a flight with anyone else other than them for a return leg on a journey (other than changing flights etc etc).
i'm not saying this flight was any different to another no frills airline but i just hate giving them a penny.
this sort of behaviour just reinforces my bias against them

It's easy to tell people that they are silly for missing the small print

It's hardly 'small print' and I can't understand how anyone can miss it as it's all over the website including pop ups! That being said you do appear to have been right royally shafted, but that's all part of Ryanairs business model. Err slightly from their T&C's and they'll make you pay!

I actually enjoy flying with them, and have done now for the past 21 years! No hold baggage and free priority boarding. £5 return flights including taxes. I've seen some great places for virtually nowt!

I avoid ryanair like the plague due to some lousy experiences (see other posts).

other posters have been using them for years with no problem.

I've read plenty of complaints but nothing like this!!!

your chances of compensation will depend largely on your tenacity. ryanair are renowned for putting up a fight.

publicity won't bother them. stories ranging from disabled being refused boarding, through their 1 millionth passenger winning £20k for breach of contract, to Mdme sarkozy suing for advertising misuse have all hit the headlines, and ryanair doesn't turn a hair.

    good luck.

it does seem harsh , there is no doubt about that, but 50 or so travellers on that flight either ignored ryanairs request for API or just failed to book their flight correctly, and they paid the price with the harshest sentance ryanair could have imposed, i have sympathy for those who were stitched up but on the other hand why should ryanair let dozens and dozens of spanish bound passengers ignore the rules probably on a daily basis on every flight.

i wonder what happened to those web check n go people with ryanairs glitch in the system 01/01/200 IRELAND printed incorecctly on the boarding card ?
