I noticed over recent months we get a lot of dust in the car despite cleaning it almost every week inside and out

I since found out that it has a pollen filter on passenger side under the grill in front of the windscreen. It is attached with one screw and 3 fastens which you can only get to when you open the lid

I thought we may as well replace it one side closest to outside is very dark grey.

Now problem is the plastic grill you have to lifted off is attached at one end to the windscreen and the seal is broke. I can only assume when it rains it may drip down to the filter. It says in Haynes manual to careful put it back but it looks to me that the seal once broken needs to be resealed

So my question is what type of seal is it and can it easily be done?

I see it seems to be a problem judging by this reponse

  • If yours is the original model Focus, ie,'98-'04, there is a modified type of pollen cover which has a drip tray underneath. This catches any drips and drains out to one side. Your car may have this fitted already, and so the seal to the windscreen isn't really that important. If not fitted, go to ford and buy one.

Yes its 2k version not sure of the mark number

It does have some sort of tray its just in Haynes manual its mentions to fit it proper and also that others have experienced problems with water penetration. In the end we got a filter for £11 and sealed the plastic grill that fits up to screen with black silicon sealant

The grill did have something on it I think they call it Butyl strip

I asked in the shop (trade shop for car parts) and they said I have to ask Ford

if you buy a genuine ford pollen filter it comes with a foam seal for around the edge of the pollen filter housing.

    Hi,

If you want to order them from the net, order them from here. They can source almost any ford parts and are very reasonably priced. Just stick the part numbers in the request form and they will email you with a quote and how you can order. I have ordered a fair amount of stuff from that site and their service has been excellent.

Or you can give a ford main dealer these part numbers and order direct with them.
