    Hello stranger!!!

That looks like a pretty reasonable list.....before you know it, it will be as though you have never been away from here!

  • Okay, I’m back (again) but this time I have done a S.O.A. Last month was ridiculous and I am determined that even though the bank has upped the OD limit to £2500.00, we will not go to the limit or even use it at all if possible.

So despite everything, we are still hugely overspending but the good news is that OH is now talking to his sister and that the first payment has been made, but as we are rather short this month we paid £200 in July to his sister, a month earlier than agreed I should add, to start to cover for this and normal payments will resume from September’s salary.

OH is still taking lunches and I am making lunch for myself whilst I am at home rather than nip to the shop when I am out with one or both of the children.

And….we have been using the Capital One card to try and balance things but I have made over payments last month and this to cut it down a bit…I know, it was naughty and rather adds to the loan so feel free to slap me one.

    DH salary £2817.00
    Child benefit £125.40
    Total £2942.40

    More Than (home ins) £35.28
Royal & Sun Alliance (DH car ins) £44.76
Royal & Sun Alliance (my car ins) £35.62 – will go down to £31.11 from next month
    DH eyecare plan £10.00
Water £29.42 – April to November
    Insurance £114.23
    Life insurances £152.67
Council Tax £143.00 – April to January
    Mortgage £932.15
    DH car £185.55 – year & 1.2 left
    Sky t.v & broadband £29.00
    Gas/electric £53.00
Capital One £100.00 – this will change from next month to min amount.
Mobiles £53.72 – contract not pre-pay, DH will not swap
    Home phone bill £22.20
    Groceries & Alcohol £300.00 approx
    Petrol £209.00 roughly
DH Nic-Assist gum £136.00 – I know and he is trying

    Total £2586.16

We should have £356.24 per month left over of which £100.00 is paid to his sister for the ‘family loan’. There is also £100 excess to come out of that this month too as I am seeing a consultant about my back and this is through DH’s work health insurance.

We have just changed gas/electric suppliers and I am going to leave it for a few months before changing again as I want to see if DD is better than a quaterly bill if it works out more expensive then off they go.

DH will not cancel the life insurances and therefore these are the cheapest we have found. DH is worried that if he dies the kids and I will be up a creek.

So that leaves us with £256.24 this month to last us until DH gets paid again in September.

I am ordering the shopping online and have found that it is cheaper especially when I can get a free delivery code and I buy the fruit and veg from the local market.

Even though we still go to the pub, we have now stopped the take aways as roughly £200 per month was being spent there
  • Morning all,

Realisation number two hit me this morning when I checked the bank account online, DH got paid :T but it cleared the OD and didn’t leave much else so despite not wanting to go to the limit on the OD this month, we may be near  It is our own stupid fault for being so spend thrifty last month, I knew we’d be tight this month but still a bit of a shock.

So, I am still sticking to the plan drawn up last month and will insist that DH keep taking lunches and do as much non-spending as possible.

I am going to count up the money in the demi-john and bank it this afternoon, if there is enough.

The shopping is being delivered this morning too and I need to nip to Tesco’s to get some mince and alcohol for the month. I am determined this month that I will not go to Tesco’s for anything unnecessary and knock that on the head with a sledgehammer if needed.

Will update later if I get chance.

So all in all you ARE moving forward. Remember it is baby steps - if we try and take too much of a leap in one go we are more likely to fall flat on our faces.

You are getting there - stick with it!

  • Thanks Hypno, doesn’t feel like we are getting anywhere sometimes and I think that is why we have slip ups like last month.

Anyway, I dropped DS off at pre-school and nipped to Tesco’s. I spent £94.84!!!! I did get the meat to last for the month and alcohol to last as much as possible too. I also bought some wine that was on offer should have been £7.99 a bottle and was reduced to £3.99 a bottle, so have bought two and put them in the drawer upstairs for Christmas.

I need to get back in to the swing of recording things down in this diary so I can keep check on what is going on.

    Hi Purpletea

I have just read your thread from the beginning and wanted to say I am glad you are back posting updates again. As hypno says it is baby steps.

I am reading lots today to try and motivate me. Although I have used this site before, it is only relatively recently that I had my major light bulb moment.

    Take care and keep posting.

Also not sure what sort of wine you like to drink, but Tesco have an offer on Californian rose at the moment for £3 a bottle (my favourite at the moment and when its hot, I like to drink rose with ice which makes it last even longer  )

Debt now £30,100 (9.5% paid off)

    £2 coins saved and banked = £210
  • Thanks PercyPig as I said earlier it doesn’t feel like we’re getting anywhere but come hell or high water we will do and so will you it just takes a while.

Thanks for the tip about the rose and will get DH a bottle to try and see if he likes it, at £3.00 it’s a good deal. DH is currently into drinking White Zinfandel but I can’t stand the stuff, he also likes red wine. I’m a white wine kind of girl, the wine I bought this morning was red so must get some white stashed away for lil ole me.

I forgot to add that in my SOA I missed out that there is £25 for swimming; this is going to be cancelled as the pool water is generally cold and as I only go once a week it doesn’t seem worthwhile to keep paying that amount, I am going on Monday to speak to the leisure centre.

    Hi Purpletea
I have just sat and read the whole of your thread whilst my DD (aged 5) watches Cebeebies.... bad mother that I am!!!!

Anyway, just wanted to pop in and say, well done for keeping going. Boy it's hard and demotivating but to keep going is the best we can do. Well done.

Also, I love, love, love 'White Zinfandel' like your DH and just thought I would let you and Percypig know that my tesco (so I assume others) have a special deal at the moment on 1.5litre bottles of White Zinfandel for £5 (I'm right in thinking that is 3 bottles worth for a fiver). I put some in my trolley last week and then in true DFW style took it out again because it is only me that drinks it in our house..... Also budget was too tight to splash out even a £5, that's how tight things are for us.

Anyway, keep posting and I will keep reading.

    Best wishes
    :D:D

  • Morning all,

Well it’s rather dreary here today and DH is on site this weekend as the job is nearly at a close.

Apart from the weekly pub visit, the one we go to has an outside climbing frame so the kids can run riot, today is likely to be a no spend day. My hip is giving me so much jip today that I am almost limping…roll on Tuesday evening when I see the specialist.

Counted up what was in the demi-john yesterday and we have managed to save £24 in silver :T , didn’t bother banking the copper as there wasn’t much of it. That promptly went in the bank account. Roll on the terramundi being filled, I am just dying to see how much is in there!

    Have a good day everyone.
