Just curious, but do you just pick them and wash them in cold water??? Love the dandelion leaves idea!

Hello Maz, Yes, I mix them up with the other salad leaves, rinse them, shred them up a bit - so far he hasn't guessed what I'm doing!

i've never tried it, so not in a position to offer a professional opinion, but at first glance the nettle/dandelion thing sounds totally disgusting!!

The OH and MiL keep trying to sneak home grown stuff onto my plate, but i like my food to come from a shop and the more chemicals on it the better!!

Each spring we make nettle beer using the Hugh FW recipe - available online. Apart from nettles all you need is an orange and a lemon, cream of Tartar, yeast and castor sugar.

We are just in the proces of making batch 2 for 2009. Its ready to bottle in around 4 days and ready to drink in around 2 months.

    Happy foraging

    Hi mardatha,

Nettle soup is lovely...it has a mild peppery flavour. I've made it countless times and even the children love it, although now that they're older, they're less keen on coming with me to gather the nettles. :D

I'll add this thread to the main Nettle recipes- Food from the wild. once you've had some more replies as your question may help others who are thinking of making it.
