Conned by Vodafone AGAIN!

I do apologise because this has ended up being quite long but I feel others should be warned.

I've currently got a Nokia 7390 with Vodafone on an 18 month contract (in fact when I took out the contract I was told it would be 12 months, when it arrived it was for 18 months but I stupidly didn't complain and let them get away with that  ). Anyhow I've still got 5 months left on my contract and I'm currently paying between £30 - £40 (including £6.99 insurance) every month. My deal is actually for 150 mins and I think 250 texts (can't remember exactly) for £25 which I know is shockingly expensive for what I'm getting and I do frequently go over my minutes which is why I'm paying more than £25. On my previous price plan I had 'stop the clock' and only 125 minutes but I never went over these because of the 'stop the clock' offer so when I upgraded I was told that I didn't need anymore than 150 minutes as I wasn't using the minutes I had! This was obviously rubbish as I don't use the phone anymore than I used too, in fact I probably use it less (I now get free calls from my landline)!

Anyway all of that wasn't what actually prompted me to post..........I received a call from Vodafone on the 16th (0808 number) offering me a deal as I was such a 'good' customer ( ), the guy said he could see that I had 5 months left on my contract and admitted that the 150 minutes deal I'm on now isn't very good for what I'm paying and he offered me a deal of a free phone up to £300, 750 minutes & 250 texts, 3 months half price line rental for £25 per month for 12 months!

I told him that I didn't really want to be tied down to a contract again and that I was thinking about going to pay as you go at the end of my contract. I did say that I may consider it if it reduced my bill as it's quite high now. He asked me what phones I was interested in and I asked about the Nokia N95 which he said is worth £500 so I'd have to pay £30 per month for that and it'd be for 18 months (still less than what I'm paying and more minutes).

I asked would my current handset be blocked if I did get this new phone and if so could it be unlocked? He told me to call 191 when the new phone arrives. So I agreed and the phone arrived the next day.............

Before I even opened the bag I called 191 about my old handset to see if it'd be blocked. The operator looked on his computer and said it looks as though this has been set up as a second contract  ! He put me on hold and then confirmed that this was the case. I opened the bag and found it did have a new sim card and number. I explained that this is not what was agreed and why on earth would I want 2 mobile phones? He just said well do you want to send it back so I said yes and then he transferred me to the returns dept. I arranged to return the phone which is getting picked up on the 22nd (I was told that I could return it in-store but declined this as it's incovenient for me to make a special journey into town with my 2 small children to return it). I have been told that they'll pick it up between 8am and 6pm  . I explained that I have to take my daughter to pre school in the morning and pick her up again in the afternoon so could he give me a time slot to which I was told no and that I should leave a note on my door saying I'll be back soon  ! This is ironic considering when the phone was delivered I was able to select a slot of between 12-4pm.

So now I'm expected to wait in for this phone to be returned that I was conned into agreeing to! At no point was I told that this was a 2nd contract. I knew that my contract wasn't up yet but I know that sometimes Vodafone let you upgrade earlier and as it had been over 12 months I thought that this was the case (I have done this with them before). if I hadn't of rang them about my old handset I wouldn't have even realised that it had been set up as a second contract and the 14 days probably would have lapsed and I'd have then been stuck with it!

I did ring up and complain but this person was extremely unhelpful and then went on to try to sell me some other add on to my current tariff  .

Thanks for reading if you got this far. I shall definitely be leaving Vodafone when my current contract ends (after 5 years with them too)!

I had the same problem and each time I called to clarify what I was buying I got a different story. I emailed in complaint repeatedly and eventually they give me £10 a month off my bill until July when I can renegotiate the contract

Thanks simpywimpy. I think I should complain again in writing/email as they weren't interested on the phone.

    Good afternoon sam84uk

I've just read your original post and can certainly understand why you're unhappy with Vodafone at the moment.

Vodafone is always concerned to hear about those rare instances when the deal discussed isn't that which has been processed and we're equally as eager to put things right when a mistake has been made.

I don't know if you've sent your email to the CEO yet; if you have then I'm sure that you'll be contacted soon (if you haven't already) to get this sorted out.

If you haven't then I'd recommend that you contact Vodafone's Forum Intervention Team through this link. All you'll need to do is to include the code FIT 135 in the body of your email to ensure that this comes through to us. Once we receive this we'll get in touch with you.

    All the best.

I have just sent through my concerns using this link however after clicking send it just re-directs me back to the homepage so I have no idea whether or not it has actually sent or been received.
