I used to do loads of meals with tinned tuna & spicy stuff, but my DH doesn't eat either, so:
Cheapie noodles from ASDA or Lidl - basis of loads of meals - especially now the cheapie pastas have gone up due to the price of wheat.....
Use cheaper stuff to bulk out meals - eg. I always add loads grated carrott to bolognaise & other minced beef dishes - the kids don't notice that their getting extra veg and it makes the minced beef go further! 'Bolognaise' type meals can easily be bulked out with any available veg.
My corned beef hash is boiled potatoes mashed (or any leftover roasters from Sunday are often used /added! - and any veg sometimes so it becomes like bubble & squeak with corned beef!) pop in a dish with grated cheese & sliced tomatoes on top & oven until cheese bubbly or brown to taste. Also sometimes add a tin of sweetcorn, which seems to go well. DH likes a fried egg on top of his...
Don't usually cost my meals exactly, but £30 week will do me & DH for all food & cleaning products, incl. packed lunches, plus an extra £10 - 15 when we have his 3 kids over for the weekend as they do like a big roast & the cost of meat seems to have gone up a lot in the last year!!!! (and gods - don't teenagers EAT!)The best advice you can give your children: "Take responsibility for your own actions...and always Read the Small Print!"

earlier I made the fishcakes! added the sweetcorn and covered in breadcrumbs! Mmmmmmmmmm yummy! the mixture was yummy even before I made them into fishcakes. HOWEVER I made 6 and left them on the side to cool as I thought I might freeze them, when I just went to check on them the dog had dragged them onto the floor and eaten them!
So that didnt save me many pennies did it!:rotfl:0 -

Tuna savoury pancakes
Make up batch of pancakes using a couple of eggs. Roll them up with tuna and place in an oven-proof dish. Make a white sauce, season and pour over. Grate cheese over and bake in a hot oven till cheese has melted.
We had this tonight and the kids love it.
Not sure on exact costings but I would think the whole lot would come in at under £2 for a family of four.
just wanted to say that I tried this recipe last week and it was fab. my family are usually a little suspicious of my new recipes but they really liked this. they had lots of ideas for different fillings - mushroom and bacon, or cottage cheese with spinach (cheaper than ricotta)weaving through the chaos...0 -
when i was little my mum used to do savory pancakes. i never liked what she put in them. so for me she would always use baked beans as a filled wth grated cheese on top. it was very very yummy.
