Go to http://www.techcrunch.com/get-youtube-movie/
Put the link in and it will download, you will have to convert it to a AVI file or something as FLV cannot be opened by most players.
I think VLC player can open it: http://www.videolan.org/0 -
If using IE7, then try:
http://www.ie7pro.com/

Just used that link you recommended and downloaded a video, which did indeed open immediately with VLC (which comes as standard on installs of Ubuntu Feisty Fawn I might add).
Thanks for your very useful post

Whilst I can play flv's with VLC (Windows), I do find that if I attempt to move the progress slider at the bottom while the movie is playing the movie stops and the bottom portion of the window closes - is it just me?Stompa0

https://www.dvdvideosoft.com has several free tools for downloading from youtube. Which are really easy to use and are a single process, rather than 2 processes.0
