Ikea Ashton (Despite mania of 21% Discount day!)

Just wanted to praise the Till Supervisors at Ikea Aston for their great service under extreme pressure yesterday (21% off birthday).

Loaded up my trolley until it's wheels groaned and queued patiently in line for tills, after all was scanned total came to over £800 which seemed odd but I didn't want to hold the till queue up argueing with the operator who was obviously out of her depth.

Just scanning the first few lines of the receipt there was obvious errors, so I grabbed one of the Supervisors who went through it line by line.

Half way through the receipt she apologised and said really it will be much quicker to refund everything line by line and then re-scan (having found what the problem was - the checkout girl had been scanning items there were multiples off and then pressing the multiple key which meant that the multiple was being applied to the next item not the cheaper items there were multiples of)

Anyway, by the time supervisor had refunded, I was £5 up, but she said she wasn't going to go through it again just to balance it in Ikea's favour.

Quickly re-scanned items and in space of half an hour I was £5 up, another "visit" on my family card and had a good chat with supervisor who was under the impression that it would be a LOOOOOOONg time before such an offer was repeated as they felt they hadn't quite got the logistics right - they were expecting a huge rush first thing another just after lunch, but it had never tailed off since they opened (this was at 7pm)

Based on the fact it is unlikely to be repeated, I decided to load the car and go around again and get all the things I was "unsure" of whilst they were 21% off (I've got 90 days to take them back when I've had a chance to decide without the pressure of fighting around the aisles) By this time it was nearly 11pm and the warehouse/checkouts were full as far as you could see.

So, well done Ikea Checkout Supervisors for keeping calm under pressure! :T

Lets hear it for ALL Ikea staff across the country, it seems everyone had the same, cheerfull, helpful staff that I found in the Edinburgh store :j

I made sure my thanks were passed on to the Duty Manager and have also sent a letter conveying the same, £2 pack of Ikea cards with 21% off of course ;)
  • I agree, they did a good job and pulled in lots of extra staff, but did you actually get the 21% discount?

    CHECK YOUR RECEIPT

Ikea acknowledged that it was not applied on the till I used. How many other people didn't get their 21% discount?
  • Yeah, I saw it come off (all 3 times lol)

The Warrington store deserves a mention too, all the staff were really good, but then i find they usually are.
  • I would actually say that I found the staff MORE helpful than a normal day on Saturday, I'm not saying they are specifically bad at other times, just that my expectations were that they were going to be under so much pressure that CS would take a huge nose-dive.

The fact that my expectations were not only proved completely wrong, but also that I was so pleased with the way the staff coped on Saturday is what prompted me to mention here on the 5* board.

  • I agree. I found all staff I dealt with very helpful and nice, despite being very busy and the fact that some customers were less than nice to them!

I find the staff usually very helpful, I just dislike the layout of the Ashton store. Much easier & quicker to drive to Leeds or Warrington.
  • Ashton Vs Warrington is about same time/distance for me, do prefer Ashton though...
    a) parking is easier / closer
    b) having all under one roof (no collecting stuff from different warehouse)

I just dislike having to take 2 lifts at Ashton to get to the start of the shop, plus it is hard work getting to it off the motorway. I think it takes you in about 3 circles to get to the store. At Leeds, the parking is under cover and everything in one building and I can go to the cinema / have a meal afterwards. I do like the magnetized trolley escalators at Ashton. Very fancy.
  • 2 lifts? Just the one when I was there and simple from Stockport direction on M60 (Warrington is alot better with the "new" junction)

Never tried Leeds, is a bit far for me.
