BL , all i see is that he really wants to come to the uk, 1 obstacle had got in his way and he's trying to sort it asap, By giving you the desposit upfront and not asking for anything in return, except for keeping the room on hold a little longer i personally don't think its anything dodgy and you are doind the right things ;)

Only thing i would like to ask you is how do you put up with having strangers in your home, I'd be so scared, saying that im a big fat scaredy cat anyway :rotfl:

Awww! Well, the other two blokes are just fantastic! It's great having someone to take you out on a Friday night

To be honest, I barely see them - we're in a large, 3-storey house and I've put individual key locks on all the bedroom doors so we can each lock our personal goods away (I've got copies of them all, but would never abuse my position).

Each room is big enough for a sofa etc too, in fact I just sleep on a sofa bed, so I've got my own living room if I want privacy.

The 2 guys I've got so far never seem to spend more than 2 nights a week here - they're always working away - so it's actually just like living on my own most of the time!

I do have faith in human beings (without being completely daft), and I also know my rights as landlord to kick anyone out that was causing problems. It doesn't scare me at all :) There is a fair amount of instinct too - one of the guys who asked for a room just seemed "weird" - after I turned him down, he sent me some very strange text messages (something about strap-ons??) but I ignored them and they went away :rotfl:!

From what he said and based on my experience its unlikely he'll get his visa.

As well as to demonstrate a minimum level of funds the consulates ask for bank statements to show that the applicant is financially stable, and receiving a regular income. Large sums of money deposited by the family just before the application, almost certainly to be transferred back again afterwards, are a red flag to visa officials.

Agree with ruggedtoast. Especially as he is applying for a visa to let him work during holidays - consulates will be very wary of a big deposit from a family member. Would have been much better for her to guarantee him instead

Its possible his visa application has been rejected and hes appealing the decision. Few appeals result in a change of heart by the consulate.
They do if you're rich and live in many third world countries.
